Advantages: Novelty value, Grabs attention

Disadvantages: Bit of a pain

With the majority of bands being released on Cd format, you can understand their attempts to jostle around, try to look good, through packaging, anything to make it jump up and say "Look at me! The band who made me is cool!"

Music is a popularity contest with bands. The hidden track can be a secret weapon, or an achilles heel.

i must admit, i often get excited when i find a hidden track, there is a certain novelty behind it, like on the Super furry animals' Guerrila album,

But, the problem i have is, the novelty does wear thin after a while, either they're sub-standard tracks that you don't go out of your way to hear, or they're good, but there's nothing more infuriating than having to fast forward Twenty five minutes of the last track to have to hear it. Or rewind back five minutes from the first (personally i only consider a track hidden if it's before the first track.)

If you ask me, i think the hidden track is something for the fans of the band, the ones who really care
