Howlin' Wolf was a huge figure, both physically and in terms of his importance in blues music. Born Chester Burnett in Mississippi in 1910, like many bluesmen it took some time before he established himself as a major figure on the Chicago rhythm and blues scene that boomed in the 1950s.
