Advantages: very good music
Disadvantages: not for you if rock is not your thing
Incubus is one of the most prolific and inventive bands around. They are known for their diverse, experimental and prog-rock style. They gain praise and popularity for utilizing every genre available to expand their sound. The incorporation of turntable into their music attracted a large fan base who appreciates the band's experimenting a new flavor added to old-school rock.
The band's earliest releases were a riot of styles and creativity using different instruments which are not widely used by other alternative bands. The band claimed that they want to sound weird but thankfully their music is weird but pleasant enough to the ears.
Their breakthrough single "Drive" still earn constant airplay despite the fact that it's been eight years since its release. One of my personal favorites is the song "Are You In?". It's a very laid-back and sexy song.
Although, Incubus means something evil, their lyrics lean more towards optimism and social awareness. It is apparent in the song "The Warmth" where it urges you to experience the best life has to offer before your time comes. This is what endears me to the band. Their poetic lyrics and genius compositions. They have gone mainstream but by no means gave up or compromise their kind of music and their goal of continuing to evolve and experiment with every possible sound out there.
The band has taken a break and will probably disappear for a year or two but I am positive they will be back with another surefire hit. They have been consistent with every subsequent release. Their talent and resourcefulness will propel them back to the memory of their legions of fans.
Summary: my quick take on the band

- 20/11/08 A certain shade of green is my fave track. Used to get played every weekend at the rock club I used to go to, and everytime, the dance floor just went mad when it came on. |
