INXS - timeline of the albums (INXS in general)

Advantages: great music Disadvantages: none
What scares me about being a fan of INXS is that the band has been going for as long as I have been alive! 1979! But that did not stop me from getting to know their music and loving it. I have all of the albums which the band have done - well at least all of the albums which they did with the sadly missed Michael Hutchence. Right from the very first album entitled just "Inxs" in 1980 - they stood out from the crowd. They recorded this album whilst they were playing gigs in the local pubs in and around Sydney. My favourite song from this album has to be "just keep walking". Next came the album "Underneath the Colours" in 1981 - favourite song this time has to be "Stay Young". Then came Shabooh Shoobah and although the first single released from this album was "the one thing", my personal favourite is "don't change" - can't play this song enough! The came the album "The Swing" which went platinum and was their first album to reach the number 1 position in the Australian charts. This album is particularly memorable for me for the music videos that they shot - Original Sin and I Send a Message - particularly the video for "I Send a Message" which they filmed in a famous Tibetan Monastery and were the only band allowed to film there on condition that they removed their shoes and that the head monk could be in the video! lol! I also like "burn for you" from this album. Next comes "Listen Like Thieves" from 1985 (I was 6 yrs old!) and this is my favourite album of all with my favourite song "Kiss the Dirt (falling down the mountain)" which I could listen to one hundred times over and never get fed up of! Then in 1987, INXS released "Kick" which is their biggest selling album to date and probably the one that most people will recognise. Songs that you must listen to from this album are "New Sensation, The Loved One, and Never Tear Us Apart". After a three year break, the band released "X" - the X representing the tenth year since the band released their debut album. My personal favourites are "By My Side" and "The Stairs" but the more well known are songs are "Suicide Blonde" and "Disappear". 1992 saw the release of "Welcome to Wherever You Are" - which made it into the top 50 albums of 1992. INXS did not tour with this album which unfortunately led to a lessening of their popularity. Still their biggest hit was "Not Enough Time" along with "Baby Don't Cry" in the UK. "Baby Don't Cry" is the first INXS song that I can remember hearing and I was about 13 years old at that time. "Taste It" from the same album has also a rather "exotic" music video starring Michael! "Full Moon, Dirty Hearts" was released in 1993 and had guest vocals from Ray Charles and Chrissie Hynde. "The Gift" has an excellent music video in this album. Following a four year break during which time I did discover more about INXS and get really into their music, they released "Elegantly Wasted" in 1997. This was the final album that the band recorded with Michael Hutchence. All of the songs on this album are amazing, I love them all and this album is a fitting tribute to Michael Hutchence. I could not possibly pick a single song from this last album as a favourite. My highlight was being able to see INXS with Michael Hutchence in concert in Glasgow, also being priviliged to meet them all before the concert and get their autographs. I also got my pic taken with Kirk Pengilly! YAY! Summary: 30 years of a great rock band! |
