I have only been introduced to Kiss's Music recently by the guitarist in the band I play in. They are a big influence in his playing style so I figured I should give them a go and find out what made them so huge 25 years ago. Background ---------- In the dizzy heights of the mid 70's with Glam Rock at its most potent and before the influx of punk, there was a band playing "in your face" rock called Kiss. They had the make up of Glam rock with the heavy guitar sounds that could now be associated as light Heavy Metal. Heavy metal was not around then. The band comprised of 4 members, all with their own unique make up. ...  Read the complete review

KISS. In recent times this name rather stands for commerciality than for good music. But KISS had been fore-runners and co-founders of the whole Hard Rock-scene. Almost revolutionary was the idea to mask their true identity behind the masks, which had been derived of Japanese Kabuki-theatres, where also mainly black and white was used to paint the faces. Legions of paparazzi made their living with shaky snap-shots of the allegedly real and unmasked KISS for years. What was also new to the whole scene was their stage-show, for the first time with pyros, raisers and other gimmicks that made up the furious performance (you almost could talk about ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kiss in general: The hottest band in the world! (256 words)

It had always been a dream of mine to see Kiss in full make-up with the original line up and my wish came true at Donnington 1996. Alas it would be the one and only chance I had. I had hoped to save enough money to see them live in either Detroit or New York but this is not to be as Kiss are soon to be no longer. My daughter will only get to see them on video and hear them on CD. With a history spanning nearly 30 years and a few line up changes, who could forget the untimely death of Eric Carr or the arthritic condition that crippled Mark St.John and who would want to remember Vinnie Vincent? Despite all this they have remained fairly consistent in their album releases ...  Read the complete review

Having been a KISS fan for nearly 20 yrs. It is a shame that they are saying goodbye hopefully with a bang.It would be nice if they play 2 nights at Wembley Arena so as they can say goodbye. The Farewell shows in the States are selling pretty well with almost every show selling out within hours. The Tour is been followed every day by the KISS ONLINE and most of the KISS WEBSITES with an in depth commentary on every show and anything outstanding on the TOUR.Most of the classics are been played on the tour like LOVE GUN and DETROIT, without forgetting Rock'n'roll all nite. The live album from the Tour has been prospond for now but hopefully in the near future it will ...  Read the complete review

KISS have had a very long and illustrious career which should not be gone un-noted. From the early days of 'Wicked Lester' with Gene & Paul, right up to the Farewell Tour, the band have continued to set the standard to every other band on the face of the planet. To quote Gene "We want to show every new band exactly how the big boys do it!". 'Nuff said. With just over 30 albums in just under 30 years, second only to the Beatles in the number of gold records, over 70 million albums sold, endless tours in every country all around the world, a bigger list of merchandise than you can shake a very, very large stick at, KISS as we know them are ...  Read the complete review
