... heads. Kylie has stayed true to herself and really grounded. Yes, she probably has her moments, but these seem to have been kept private, so all well and good. Her brave battle against breast cancer. Wow, this was a shock to me. I was so saddened when I learned about the news. However, she went private for a while and then returned looking as beautiful as ever. I was unsure if she would perform again, but she did, and with the ultimate in style. Kylie is a performer that has the right to hold her head high... she is a...more

Premium Review Kylie in general: Kylie - A 20 year anniversary overview (1644 words)

Having already spent nearly a decade on Australian TV, the natural progression for Kylie Minogue seemed to be to do something in music. 2 successful years on soap-of-the-moment Neighbours as tomboy mechanic Charlene led to a highly publicised (although denied) relationship with onscreen lover Jason Donovan. In 1987 after a benefit led to an impromtpu performance of Locomotion - Kylie recorded the track with Mushroom records, and found herself with the biggest selling Australian single of the year and 7 weeks at the top of the National Charts. However, Mushroom had no desire to market Kylie internationally, although accepted that the upturn in Neighbours ...  Read the complete review

Cast your mind back to the late 1980s, and remember what Kylie Minogue was back then…An aspiring Australian actress in the hit TV soap, Neighbours, her trademark frizzy 80s ‘do’ made her a fashion icon amongst young fans. Think of Kylie Minogue now: At 34 years of age, she’s got the world at her feet, and her life is a far cry from when she was playing a mechanic in Neighbours. Currently, she is probably the most successful ‘comeback’ act, and her career has spanned throughout 3 decades. Her slick, ‘grown-up pop’ image now is a far cry from the pure bubblegum pop she’s produced before, yet both formulas were ...  Read the complete review

Following from the worldwide success of her first single "Spinning Around" taken from her latest album "Light Years" Kylie has done good again with the second release "On a night like this". The song may have been recorded by other artists before one by the name of Pandora from Sweden only Kylie could carry of the vocals with this one! She has the profile and talent to interpret the song well and after hearing her sing it live on the Radio 1 roadshow live in Plymouth on the 20th of August, I know it's gonna be big! Great song very now and even some of my non-Kylie fan friends have said it's a goer. ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kylie Live (583 words)

In the 80s, she refused to sing live. Full stop. The Hitman roadshow may have been live, but the video (On The Go) was at the very least dubbed with the studio vocals. Her voice sounded manufactured (what exactly was the 'Calric' microphone?), and credibility was not a word commonly used to describe her voice. But who cared? Her fans certainly did not, nor would they even have been able to tell with an average age of about 10. But then came Enjoy Yourself tour 1990. Kylie was live! I was fortunate to be sitting on the second row in the middle, and accompanied by my dad and little sister, immensly enjoyed myself at my first ever concert (I was ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Kylie in general: Mrs Mangel Would Shocked! (854 words)

It's 1986. You are watching Andrew and Fergie's wedding, you are listening to Dire Staights on your new and modern CD player, and you are introduced to Charlene Mitchell, a dungaree wearing mechanic with a mop of flyaway hair. Fast-forward 15 years, and whilst the Royal marriage and Dire Sraights are now history, the artist formerly know as Charlene goes from strength to strength. Kylie's music career started with 'I Should Be So Lucky'. Initially, Stock, Aitken and Waterman had been reluctant to sign Kylie on the basis that soap stars don't make good pop stars. However, they relented, and the song went to #1 for 5 weeks, despite one ...  Read the complete review
