... well on the advert and sounded so immense in clubs throughout the summer was just sounding a bit repetitive, although not all bad. "Chant of a Poor Man". Yes this is also good, perhaps a little downtempo so early on in the album but with its dub-sound and sombre tone, this would not have sounded out of place on "Leftism". By now I am wondering where the stompers are. And then "Double Flash" comes along...straight to the point with a four-four beat but little else. Is this four years of ...more

Like all true Leftfield-followers, I endured the long duration between their two album releases in sheer anticipation. The first album rates so highly, paying apt tribute to so many styles in a wonderful freeflow that surely any superceding album that takes four years to make would be nothing less than musical Armageddon! The release date for "R&S" kept getting pushed back with rumours that it was undergoing that all-important last minute tweaking. So, when it finally hit the shops at the end of September 1999 I can honestly say that I was nothing short of......disappointed. OK, I got it home and put it in the CD player and the voice of British ...  Read the complete review

Leftfield make pretty punchy, pretty compelling electronic music. One recurring feature is their inconsistency, as their albums contain some utter belters, but some fillers too. That said, those belters really are well worth the bother - Africa Shox being a particular favourite of mine. Their style is quite unique, strangely brooding, and in times ever dark, flitting between ambient, experimental, and all sorts of other electronic styles to create a sound all of their own. If you have yet to check Leftfield out, I suggest you do, as their best will likely blow you away. ...  Read the complete review

Leftfield are great! The clubby technoey kind of music they produce is incredibly catchy but unlike quite a lot of catchy stuff it is very good indeed. Both albums could be counted classics in their own right but in my eyes the numero uno is Leftism. With a mix of all sorts of thing s and barely a bad track on it just beats Rhythm and Stealth. Rythm and stealth is also very good and with a jiont effort with afrika bambaata there aer some great results., Buy this if you are even remotely into anything you re likely to find playing in a club. ...  Read the complete review

This is another of my current players list. There are five CD's almost permanently in my CD player and this is one of them. The only track I am not sure about is the one they used for the Guinness add with the wierd voice over and the surfers on the beach. Know that one? That is probably why I am not to keen on the track as well! Good solid dance music with some low droning bass lines to get everyone in the mood. My 1 year old daughter loves this album so much she can pick it out of a stack of other CD's! Looking at the churned out commercialism of dance music at the moment, this album is well thought out and well produced to please ...  Read the complete review
