I went to see the Levellers last night at the Brixton Academy, and it was the best gig I’ve been to in a long time. The atmosphere was fantastic, everyone was having a good time, and there was moshing-a-plenty from the stage to the very back of the Academy. This was the first time I had been to an actual Levellers gig, as I’d seen them live before at festivals, but never at their own gig. I’ve been a fan for some years – since Levelling the Land and A Weapon Called the Word, but haven’t really managed to get into their more recent stuff. This however, didn’t stop me going to see them, as some of my other friends declined to come along ... Read the complete review

Zed's dead, baby... Another glorious album from the Levellers. Yes, a little more mainstream sounding than previous albums, seeming to concentrate more on great, solid melodies than breaking new grounds in musical concepts. But still the same fusion of the Celtic/folkish and more modern guitar rhythms, blended with style. A good all-round album, ranging from the initial energy of "Dog Train" and the chart hit "Beautiful Day" to more melancholy realms of "Far Away", "Survivors" and "Sail Away". My favourite track on the album would probably be "Elation" - beautiful lyrics ... Read the complete review

When I'm feeling down, and miserable, there's nothing like a good dose of the Levellers to brighten my day up. No matter what the song is, I can guarentee I'll be smiling and tapping my feet within seconds, and more often than not I'll be jumping about and singing along too. There's no doubt about it, the Levellers are really one of the last remaining hippy bands from the late 80s and 90s. But boy are they still in there! I've been to see them twice in concert, and both times they took my breath away! Their music is mainly folk rock with a beautiful celtic flavour brought in by Jon Sevink on the violin. For an example of that hear ... Read the complete review

The Levellers. What can I say? This band sound as if they really believe in what they are saying - never have I heard lyrics that actually mean something and that are delivered with such conviction. I have been a fan for years and would unhesitatingly buy any new CD on faith that it would deliver their own unique style of meaningful and lively music. Jon the fiddle player has to be one of the best and most energetic musicians I have every watched perform and the Levs make excellent use of other unusual instruments, such as the digerdoo, to great effect. As a diehard fan, I think the old stuff is the best especially Levellling the Land as some of their later stuff ... Read the complete review

Here comes that band again!!!! 'World Freakshow' starts this album with a kick up the bum.. basically it's not the fastest track, but it's close! 'Carry Me' is a slow, very moving track, this is what you need to listen to after jumping around to the band after 30 minutes! I think they put more thought into the lyrics on this album, only because this has got more....... well, umph, i was thinking of any other word to describe it but there isn't one! The violin and mouth organ in 'together all the way' are beautiful and they make the track very...swayable. All the other tracks are very good, very ... Read the complete review
