Advantages: Can be ridiculously good
Disadvantages: Inconsistent
OK. She's a girl. Sometimes she sounds a bit folk. Sometimes girly. Sometimes husky. Sometimes even very sexy. Most of all, she's really quite kooky. But what is she about? It's all a bit confusing. Her music is offbeat, and when I say that, I really mean it can be quite off. I was quite shocked when I heard her solo albums (which were less hit than miss) because I was initiated into the world of Germano via the OP8 project, a collaboration with the fantastic Giant Sand. Slush by OP8 is a wonderful and heady foray into everything that makes Lisa Germano's music work; in the cover of 'Sand' she even takes on the role of the seducing male. Powerful stuff in that laidback desert noire iguana rock kind of a way. Stop working in that bookshop (which she does when she's not making music) and show us what you're made of Lisa...again. Right on.

- 25/05/01 a tad short on detail...as I've never heard of her, I would love to see more about her history, who she's performed with, if she's touring, what her albums are called...you know, just a bit of detail to hook the reader...but not bad at all, enough to make me have a look at her stuff - thanx |
