~ How it all started ~ I feel like I have to admit it. I am a Madonna fan. Have been since she burst onto the music scene in 1982 when I was 10 years old. I used to buy smash hits magazine and loved using their lyrics provided to sing along to the latest songs in the chart. This is how I discovered Madonna. The most recent delivery of Madonna's evolution (or devolution) is 'American Life'. For 20 years, she has maintained and expanded on her pop legend. Some records may be more revered than others, but long before New Kids On the Block, Boyzone, the Spice Girls, Britney Spears and 'N Sync was Madonna creating her blueprint on how to become immediately successful and then more (and more). Unfortunately, most acts tended to passively follow her map initially and are not savvy and/or motivated enough to complete follow through and expand on it. Firstly, I know this opinion is probably going to offend people but I feel I have to speak out following a particular event. Let me set the scene. My flatmate. a good friend who also happens to be gay. He paid £180 just for the ticket to the recent madonna concert in paris. On return he told me he had a fantastic time and that he absolutely loved her. He returned with a glossy programme from the concert which cost him another £50. I was amazed.
