Then there were some slower songs, and the ending was more about the fun songs. It was a very well planned selection of songs, with many remixed to perfection to blend well together. Madonna is famous for being very choosy with her dancers, the effort she has put into the selection process has obviously paid off as the dancers reall make a massive...more

Premium Review Madonna Live: A cyber Geisha (389 words)
by - written on 14/08/01 (Very useful, 217 readings)
Rating:

Madonna's show in Paris was sold out in only a few hours. It was nearly impossible to get tickets unless you bought them on the black market (up to £300). Actually, she did not performed her show in a stadium but in The Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy, a very large hall. This is not surprising : the stage was rather small compared to those of the Girlie show or the Blond Ambition. The concert was really great : I loved the new orchestration of some songs ("Frozen" and "La isla Bonita" above all). Jean-Paul Gaultier's costumes were really wonderful. The show falls into four parts : Madonna as a punk hooligan, as a Geisha, as a cyber ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Madonna, Earls Court -Complete Rundown!! (619 words)

Despite having read many reviews of the show on previous dates, there were still some surprises for me when i eventually got to see Madonna- The Drowned World Tour for myself. She opened with Drowned World/Substitute for love, a slow number, she appeared shrouded in dry ice and surrounded by punks. Impressive Instant followed, with hectic dance routine and full use was made of the many video screens above and behind the stage. Madonna picked up her guitar for the first time in the show to strum along to Candy Perfume Girl before telling us to "F*ck off, you motherf*ckers"! She caused little offence as this was clearly part of the 70's Brit Punk ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Madonna Live: Lucky to be there to see Madonna! (538 words)
by - written on 11/07/01 (Very useful, 105 readings)
Rating:

Last night we joined 18,000 other Madonna fans at Earl’s Court to witness the spectacle that was to be the “Drowned” world tour concert. Luckily we had amazing seats, to the side of the stage, and so we could see her close enough to see facial features - while we felt sorry for those at the other end of the auditorium. Dancers worked up the excitement ready for a cheering frenzy as Madonna herself emerged from the dry ice on a raised platform. The dancing was great but I wasn’t too keen on all the punk style, much preferring the fresh and sexy image of old. Why she had to greet the crowd with “F*** Off you MotherF***ers” ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Madonna's Drowned World Tour goes down better with the a ... (807 words)

For those of you who have already seen this review in "Madonna General" then I apologise. I simply don't know how to move one opinion from one area to another- any pointers would be welcome! With the exception of her one-off Brixton Academy gig, Madonna's Drowned World Tour has been her first in quite a while. Amid the hype surrounding the tour, tickets were sold within hours of being made available, rumours circulated as to whether she would sing any of her old songs and the sale of cowboy hats rocketed. However, the one question that presided in everyone?s minds was "Will it be as good as her earlier tours?". Having been ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Madonna Live: Drowned World Tour (seen on DVD) (5546 words)
by - written on 24/05/02 (Very useful, 310 readings)
Rating:

The Drowned World Tour was divided into five segments: Punk, Japanese, Cowgirl, Latino and Pimp. The first of those features Madonna dressed in a ripped black and white tartan kilt and top with black trousers on underneath which have red straps hanging around the legs from the back and a matching red belt. A choker is around her neck. During the early stages of the tour she started off with a black top and red tartan kilt and also wore US and UK flag kilts too at later points. First of all the scene is all blue, mystical and magical as the music swells in from the instrumentalists. We see them standing there like punks, some smoking, some drinking (and spitting ...  Read the complete review
