I first saw Martina McBride on Country Music Television a few years ago. The song and video I saw was 'Independence Day', a very heartfelt and powerful song about domestic violence. The thing that made it so effective was the point of view, it was told through the daughter's eyes. It told the tale of a mother living with a drunken husband, and how everybody around her looks the other way. The mother takes control of the situation. She kills herself and her husband by setting fire to their home when the daughter goes to the independence day fair.

As I was so impressed with this song I brought the album, 'The Way That I am'. It has a wonderful selection of songs, a nice balance of the more traditional country sounding songs and new country.

Martina McBride has a very beautiful voice, and impressive vocal range. This shines through in the songs included on this CD.

Anybody who loves real music, especially country, really should look out for Martina McBride.
