Advantages: Shows Britian has class acts
Disadvantages: Will probably get dissed
After the first album "You Me and Us" I was kind of hoping for something better than an album full of slushy ballads, my wish came true. Martine has moved into many new directions on the amazing follow up "Wishing". Martine gives pop a kick in the teeth with "I'm Over You" which gave the Spicer's "Holler" a run for it's money, "Tonight" a classic R'n'B track with a funky bass line having us dancing till dawn, Martine declares tonight "she has something to say" and yeah she sure has, she can really sing and her adoring public are going love the rest in store on this long player. "Teardrops" do we need them? No way this offering seems like a song that could belong somewhere on a Celine album upbeat funky ballad appealing to yet another audience, "On The Radio" classic Donna Summer ditty has perfect single across it, Martine is back to pop and shows she belongs there pump this up and a massive summer hit next year maybe. Another mask on and this is just simply stunning "Every time" takes us on a whirl wind into Soul, R & B and pop this is a multi colour coated song a bit of everyone in there and Martine's vocals are totally different and just so lush kind of like Kylie on this with influences from all over TLC, Texas the list goes on... "Love Changes Nothing" this is just so soulful and poppy very reminiscent to other ex Eastender Michelle Gayle's effort "Sweetness" this is an instant grower and sure to having you reaching for the rewind button or repeat. So when do we get Martine's classic ballad? "You Mean The World To Me" takes us back to Celine, and yes I think Martine can be dubbed as Britain’s answer to the French Canadian wonder this is a truly beautiful love song, but we are taken further into the love tunnel and even more with Celine like vocals with
the powerful "What You See Is What You Get", we stay with the smooch factor with the title track "Wishing" again with a very soulful R & B sound and a funky bass line that will have them tapping them there toes down at the Vic. Slowing it right down lights dim, candles lit and champagne open, this is Martine's classic ballad of the album and just as I was settling to sip the bubbly, I thought Sade had walked in, Martine shows that soul is something she is really good at, "Together We Are Beautiful" is an excellent cover of an oldie but I can't remember who but I will find out and update for you, it is my favourite and it is done so well. "Everybody" for the finale takes us on a final roller coaster ride of pop and fun a great pop song that would not be out of place on a Britney album. So for an all round excellent album form a truly great star this is the album for you and I bet you will be Wishing you had only bought it sooner.

- 04/01/01 Mmm - don't know about Martine. Better than most TV stars turned pop acts, but I don't think she totally cuts the mustard against some..
At least she has got some height to her hair now |
