... CD player! Next up, I saw them support Bon Jovi at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium, along with Delirious, in 2001. During a break, Adam (MB20 guitarist) came in front of the stage and videoed & talked with the fans in the crowd. It was fantastic to see 2 of my favourite bands play on the same night! Then in 2002 came the "More Than You Think You Are" album containing the hit singles "Bright Lights", "Unwell" and "Disease". Again, this CD barely left my CD player. The follo...more

Premium Review Matchbox Twenty in general: More Than They Think They Are (523 words)

I was introduced to Matchbox Twenty (herein written as MB20) back in 1999 when a friend sent me an MP3 of "Real World", a single from their first album "Yourself or Someone Like You" (released in 1996). From the moment I heard "Real World" I was hooked, it became a favourite song and I just had to have the album to see what else the band had to offer. The album featured songs such as "Long Day", "3am", "Push" and "Back To Good". Their first album was followed up with "Mad Season" in 2000, which included the singles "Bent", "If You're Gone" (I love this one), the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Live From Australia (693 words)

Matchbox 20’s live performances are something awesome and this is confirmed in their official ‘Live From Australia’ video release. As music videos go, this one is well worth the money, running at 1hr 40mins long. Matchbox 20 it would seem had been to play in Australia 4 times in the space of 16 months when it was recorded in Sydney 1998. Obviously Australians have better music taste than the majority of the UK so I don’t blame the band for seeking out their biggest fanbase on the other side of the world. The video begins with the band making their way towards the stage and appearing out into a mammoth-sized stadium. The band launch ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Matchbox Twenty in general: Thier second album and they're still on form (152 words)
by - written on 23/07/00 (Very useful, 5 readings)

For anyone familiar with Matchbox Twenty's previous work this album will immediately feel familiar. The Guitar work is clean and powerful and Rob Thomas still has his knack for convincingly conveying his emotions with his disenchanted lyrics and distinctive voice. Only this time around they've taken it down a tone, the album feels far more poppy than their previous album, with much less grit and heavy guitar work. This however isn't a criticism, it works brilliantly, the harshness has been replaced with subtle effects, orchestral accompaniment and well timed backing vocals. The whole album is mixed very well and good use of Stereo effect creates a ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review The 'Twenty' (338 words)

My god! I love this band so much, and yet, once again, they are hardly recognised in this country. Push came out sometime in 1997 and I think it reached 25 or somewhere close, and I loved it so I bought the album 'Yourself or Someone Like You'. I don't think they has been a week since when I haven't listened to that album! Starting off with the amazing 'Real World', kicking into the mournful 'Long Day', then the upbeat '3AM'. Then onto the agry, yet so effective 'Push', then the fast paced 'Girl Like That'. Down we go into the slow-beat 'Back 2 Good', and onto the pounding 'Damn', the the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Matchbox Twenty in general: An easy listen. (271 words)

Matchbox 20 sound like they should be a country music band. Instead they’re a mixture of alternative rock and indie pop with some funky basslines thrown in for good measure. You may have heard Rob Thomas singing on the Santana single earlier this year and may have even heard Matchbox 20’s new single Bent on the radio occasionally. What you probably won’t have heard is this first offering from the band from 1996. This, in my opinion, is far better than the second album simply because of the track ‘Push’. Sounding a little like Third Eye Blind on this track, Rob Thomas actually sounds angry for once. Usually he sounds emotional but confused. ...  Read the complete review
