Advantages: LOADS of tracks - great sounding House music

Disadvantages: Some tunes can get VERY annoying - particularly 'Don't Laugh' which has just a monotonous laugh throughout!

I'm not the biggest fan of house music, but I have recently been listening out for Mauro Picotto - if you've heard anything by him then you'll know he is one of the most up and coming new DJ's in the music business and is about to, in my opinion, 'hit the big time'!!

Born in Italy, Picotto seems to have taken a lot of ‘Mediterranean’ and African theme for his songs. I have just bought the superb ‘Nukleuz’ presents Mauro Picotto (which isn’t the one listed on Dooyoo.co.uk – it has a green cover) and I have to say that it is quite brilliant! A double album full of quality tunes like Komodo, Iguana, Pulsar, Underground and Save a Soul – my personal favourite!

Although some of the tracks are very similar to one another there is a definite uniqueness to his music. I have managed to download some songs like ‘Arabian pleasure’ from Napster.com that particularly good (featuring Mario Piu) – excellent timing, superb rhythmic beat and an interesting didgeridoo sound! Brilliant vocals and very authentic instrumental combined with top-notch sequencing!

Mauro Picotto’s songs are a refreshing change from the standard ‘thud, thud, thud’ that has become so commonplace lately! If you thought Norman Cook was good then get listening to Mauro Picotto – not because of any similarities, but because he is so much more experimental and produces far better music!

If you have heard of Lizard, then you may well have forgotten about the artist who made it – Mauro of course! This, one of his most successful tunes to date is sub standard compared to his new stuff! Although the song did give him the reputation of ‘The Lizard Man’!!

Here’s a list of all the tracks on this excellent CD ‘Nukleuz presentz… Mauro Picotto – The Lizard Man’ (it was released last July by the way and costs arou
nd £16.99)

1. Save A Soul
2. The Dolphin
3. The Vision
4. Iguana
5. Make a Dream
6. Hypnobounce
7. Oasis
8. Something about U
9. See the light
10. Sparkless
11. Sturm Und Drang
12. I need your lovin’ (like the sunshine)
13. Tuareg
14. Imagine
15. Sweet Dream
16. Ultimahora Ibiza
17. Techno Harmony

That’s just CD one! As you may have noticed from some of the song titles – not all of these are by Picotto, however he has either produced them, made them, mixed them or has had something to do with them!

CD two is much more of the same, with the best tracks being Pegasus and Komodo.

It seems he has a fascination with Lizards, but hey if it helps him to make great sound tunes then great!

Great opinion on a great artist - wouldn't you say he is a more trance-based artist rather than house, though?
