Current lineup: James Hetfield (vocals, guitar), Kirk Hammet (lead guitar), Lars Ulrich (drums). Bassist still unconfirmed. I decided to buy some Metallica as I felt my collection of punk and nu-metal needed some token older music, and from the kind of bands that were available (namely Guns N' Roses, Van Halen and things of that variety) Metallica seemed the best. And it was only when I heard a few songs that I realised even though they're old, their music is fantastic. My favourite all-time Metallica song is actually in my top ten singles list, and is the excellent "One" (from the album "...And Justice For All")- quite an ... Read the complete review

One of my favourite bands ever. In my view and from what I know, Metallica seem to be the best live band in the world. Their talent is remarkable and their live performances are almost technically flawless, even providing interesting variations to their studio recordings in some cases. The amount of skill that this group has demonstrated is enviable. In some cases, it left me with a sense of bewilderment. Even my sister had to say “that’s fake” when listening to Kirk Hammett’s extremely fast frenzied guitar solo close to the end of Welcome Home (Sanitarium). At times it seems that maybe the only explanation is that the band made a pact with Satan ... Read the complete review

Metallica -1983 through 1991 Metallica has been and will always be the best, most influential metal and/or rock band of all time. Every album and every song sent a message of hope for those of us who knew that society and the government is screwed up. It gave me hope that there were people out there like me who thought for themselves and questioned authority. You don't necessarily have to fight it, just speak your mind. Let the government know that we as a people will not be misled or misused. That we as a people run this country and the government works for us. We are the nation. Kill em All Metallica released their first album 'Kill 'Em ... Read the complete review

Whether you are or were a Metallica fan or not, there's no escaping news about them in recent years as they've graduated into one of the biggest household names in planet rock, and you must've heard somewhere from someone possibly that the band's second bassist Jason Newsted has left the band, citing vague personal, private reasons in a press statement and "physical damage". This might pe a pointless read to some, but Metallica were the first band that I really got into as a teen, and even though I don't listen to them as much now, I still love and respect them as a band, and it's sad that Jason's leaving, as Jason was part of ... This album represents the pinnacle of Metallica's musical creativity. Forget their recent 'commercialised' watered down version of metal (it's good but not metal). This album has so many fresh ideas from the excellent title track to the awesome instrumental 'Orion' Lyrically it is fairly standard heavy metal with a few thought provoking tracks, but it's the music that really gets you going so to speak. 'The thing that should not be' is one of the greatest songs I've heard and there isn't a single weak track on the album, unlike most heavy metal LP's. I would highly reccommend this album to anyone who is already into the ... Read the complete review
