Metallica. Now here is a band that have lasted. 20 years to last count I think... Metallica have always shown diversity and great skill. Many people claim that when Metallica performed with the (correct me if I am wrong here) San Francisco Symphonic Orchestra, they lost their edge. They lost the image they had kept for years. This is wrong. Proving they can successfully put on a gig with an orchestra from the other end of the musical spectrum adds only another dimension to their vast talent. Metallica have survived while many others have fallen, and have ranged from a very heavy form of thrash metal in their earlier albums, to a slower, possibly more refined form in their later albums, but are perfectly capable of doing either style. They are a great group of instrumentalists, and they stand up for them selves. For instance, Napster. They could have used the façade "Band X vs. Napster" but instead they pitted themselves against Napster with their name at stake. Proving how much they cared, how much they were willing to risk to make the point. This shows just how original they are, unlike your average pop band, who get all their songs written for them, get all the instrumentation recorded in the background, and who "sing" over it. Metallica write their own songs, music etc, and you can tell that they are an original band who made it because of their actual skill (unlike, for instance, hear'say). And besides all this, Metallica are just very cool. Any proper metal fan will agree with me. Songs ranging from slow, depressive (low mans lyric) to fast, furious (fuel), and so many famous anthem style legendary songs (until it speels, unforgiven, unforgiven ii, the memory remains, one, etc...etc...). Metallica have stood the test of time and even though they have lost two bassists (one to unfortunate death and one to 'private, personal reasons') they are a band that will be remembered for a long time.
