... appreciate, that there is a duality to everything. This music lets you see the darkness always there, always waiting for the lights to fail. That plunge into real despair. So have I got the atmosphere set now? Are you prepared to really see the darkness and keep your Zippo in your pocket? Ommadawn was apparently written and recorded by Mike Oldfield during a period of intense depression. After the huge success of both Tubular Bells and Hergest Ridge, the pressure on this painfully shy and retiring genius began to dri...more

Imagine you have just walked in from work, its still early evening and the sunlight shines upon your patio, you get the deckchairs and relax you can hear from the open window the sound of Mike Oldfield from the stereo inside. As the music pours out of the window and washes over you, you can hear the sound of the wind gently rustling the leaves as the music gently drifts by. So the hectic day slows for a while and you can't help feeling relaxed and soothed with the sounds of Mike Oldfield. His music going from gently flowing rhythms to passionate climaxes using a wide variety of sounds to create an unmatched effect. To ruin the effect the kids come running up ...

Since that day I have bought all His albums except funnily enough Tubular Bells, never could take to that album, cant really explain why just I found it all sounded the same,to me it is boring. What I would like to recommend though is "The Complete Mike Oldfield" which consists of two discs. On Disc one.The instrumental section. "Arrival" taken from the Q.E.2 album. ...

No matter how you look at it, Ommadawn, the third album from Mike Oldfield, is a DARK album. To call it BLACK would be to conveniently place a limit on the level of darkness, but no, Ommadawn defies limits of darkness and overall bleak, stark depression. You can put your Radiohead and Smiths CDs away now. Tidy up the place generally, smoke a very large cigarette of your own personal preference, dim the lights, and travel to a darker world. Don't get me wrong - this is NOT music to slit your wrists, shuffle off this mortal coil, buy the farm, or even meet your maker to. Oh no. That would be far too easy. This is the music equivalent of a dally with ...
