The music of Muse is the sort that could lazily be labelled as ‘teenage angst’. You won’t find me doing that. ‘Showbiz’ is certainly an album full of passion, frustration and resentment, but has a quality that lifts it far above the traditional “I hate my life” type of music. For me, it is impossible to listen to many of the tracks on ‘Showbiz’ without the tingle of excitement you get when hearing, a quite simply ‘cracking’ album. Each track is subtly different but contributes to the completely holistic feel. The pure power you can feel either bursting from your speakers in the louder tracks like ... Read the complete review

After a great deal of build up, I have to say I found this a very disappointing listen. It is hard to remember any of the tracks really reaching out to grab me, or pour ice cold water over the hairs on the back of my neck. It's not bad, in fact it's very easy to listen to, but I expected a lot more from a band whose CD boasts 'Winner of the NME Best New Artist Award'. It would be unfair to liken them to bands like REM, Radiohead and Coldplay, because, on this evidence, they are just not that good. Part of the problem, for me, lies in the production. John Leckie is not someone who can produce the sweeping highs and lows that make an album burn ... Read the complete review

This review is a bit strange because I have decided to review the new currently unreleased album on a band I have only just heard of! Infact I don’t know when it’s out but I had access to a promo! This means I know nothing of the bands history, of their previous album or their style. Well first track “New Born” greeted me with a melodic melancholy hypnotic keyboard, bass synth intro and as soon as the singer uttered his first word I thought “Radiohead” not saying it really sounds like them but initially reminded me of “The Bends” era from Radiohead. After this intro some nice crunchy guitar punched out with the ... Read the complete review

Muse are my favourite band of all time. I love Mat Bellamy's amazing vocals, the basslines, the drums and most of al I love the staggering amount of noise the three piece can make. I find it amazing that just three people can make such sounds. The first album 'Showbiz' is my least favourite album but has some classic tracks such as 'Muscle Museum', 'Showbiz and 'Unintended'. This album is alot more experimental than the rest and although it is not my favourite, it is still great. The second album 'Origin Of Symmetry' has some of my favourite tracks on, and I think it shows us the first glimpse of what Muse are to become. 'Plug In Baby', 'New Born', ... Muse are a strange band. Listen to "Unintended", and the rest of the cd single that makes up part one, and you'd be excused for thinking they only play slow, intense, angst-ridden music.(Music to slit your throat to!) Listen to their album and you see the other side of the coin...the guitar driven heavier, rocky stuff. And to me that's the attraction. You never know quite what your gonna get! You won't hear Muse at parties, and certainly not in the clubs...but I bet there's many bedsit with this album in their collection. ... Read the complete review
