This music challenge seemed great so here goes my try at it.
Aina- Nashtock is Born
An amazing traditional metal track with a very rock opera like sound. Thomas Rektte does an amazing job in this track (and in all the album) has the bad guy of the story. This song even has a Lord of the Rings orcs like choir that adds a lot to it. Overall, an amazing track.
Bal Sagoth ? Draconis Albionensis
A powerful track of this black medieval metal band. It?s amazing how a band can give a medieval feeling to his music and, at the same time, give you the impression that you are in a space ship. It seems that you are out there in a space ship looking down to a fantasy world.
Cage ? Kill the Devil
I confess I was never a big fan of U.S. power metal, but this band does attract me, and this song is the main reason for that. With an amazing voice, good lyrics and outstanding guitar work makes this music a paragon of the style.
Demons & Wizards ? Gallows Pole
When I bought the first album of this project made by the founding members of Blind Guardian and Iced Earth I confess I was expecting something different, mostly good power metal. I was wrong, and thanks the gods for that, because if I didn?t I would never heard this track. A great melancholic track that makes us think, a lot, about our lives.
Elvenking ? The Silk Dilemma
One of the best folk metal tracks I have ever heard. Great voice, a very interesting lyric and a good dose of violin. It is truly a masterpiece of the genre that takes you to a campfire with elves playing and singing around it.
Falconer ? Child of Inocence
A pure folk song from these masters of Power Metal. It?s short, but it?s enough to take you to a tavern with a bard singing songs about a new king. Every time I put the album in the player, I listen to this song repeatedly.
Grave Digger ? Valhalla
A very good track from the best album, i
n my humble opinion, of this old metal band. The guitar, drums and pure metal vocals are masterfully done, and the epic choir that cut?s through them are very good. A song that really raises the spirit.
Helloween ? The Tune
A track that criticises the fact that the media try to control the way we think and we act. Has usual from this Power Metal band, the song sounds very happy and it cheers me up always, no matter how bad I feel.
Iron Maiden ? Be quick or be dead
I was never a big Iron Maiden friends, but since a friend gave me the best of beast double cd this was one track that me all the time. A great chorus with amazing guitar playing and vocals.
Jag Panzer ? Unworthy
Another ancient metal band, this time a more pure metal with some power metal twists here and there. Not much to say about this track, a very direct metal track that has a lyrics that somewhat appeals to me.
Kamelot ? Forever
A romantic track with the usual melancholic and sad music and lyrics. It?s amazing how many times I have felt in a situation that songs from this band relates to what I am passing at the time. This song is one of them, because it talks about the loss of a loved one.
Lucca Turilli ? War of the Universe
This track is the perfect mix between electronic music and classical music and metal. I was never a big fan of electronic music, but I assure you that this song will conquer anyone. Amazing epic choirs, orchestra sounds and great lyric makes this music an out of world sound experience.
Manowar ? Hand of Doom
The attitude of this ancient metal band is so strong that it really makes you surer of yourself and somewhat aggressive. This track, especially, gives an feeling of a modern battle hymn and it really seem that you are at war with the true metal community against the metal unbelievers and false metal idols. One of the songs I listen to before going to an exam.
Nightwish ? Fantasmic
This is one of the bands that mix classical elements and metal in a perfect way. Tarja voice is beautiful, the orchestral arrangements outstanding and the lyrics very well written. This song is my favourite because it has all the elements that I love in nightwish, the great performance of Tarja, beautiful choirs and the folk elements.
Oratory ? Song of Lust
One of the Portuguese bands I really love. The female vocalist, while not outstanding has a great voice and the sound of this melodic power metal band is very good. I love this song especially because it relates to a very? interesting part of Portuguese history/myths of the discovery times, namely the Island of the Virgins.
Power Quest ? Immortal Plains
This is one of the few power metalish British bands that exist toadya and they do sound good, not amazing but good. This track is an wondrous ballad that appeals to the sense of friendship and loyalty. Has a loner I don?t really understand why I like but? oh well.
Queensryche ? Desert Dance
Not really a fan, but Q is a hard letter to find bands to. This song is one that really catched me but I don?t know why, maybe because it falls away a little from their usual prog stuff.
Rhapsody ? Pride of the Tyrant
My favorite band of all times, Rhapsody never stops to amaze me. Great compositions, orchestral arrangements and epic choirs combined with a not so cliché fantasy story makes the songs of this band the perfect combination for me. This song is one of the best examples of this, an very interesting pre-chorus, a very catchy chorus, amazing vocals from Fabio Leone and great orchestral arrangements and song writing from Luca Turilli and Alex Staropolli.
Sammet Tobias ? The Seven Angels
This man is the vocalist of Edguy, a very good German power metal band, but his side project, Avantasia, is an amazing metal opera that loved since I first heard it. T
his song comes from that side project and what a song it is. Almost all characters of the story sing on it, there lot?s of different chorus that I love, good orchestra arrangements and lots of solos. That?s why it?s a 10+ minutes track.
Twilightning ? Jester Realm
Twilightning is a power metal band that sounds a lot like Stratovarius, but it is different enough so that I really like it. This music talks about how most people nowadays just follow a few and don?t even think for themselves. It?s a theme witich I feel is very important to discuss.
Underlord ? The Warlock
I?m stuck. From now one there will only be mentioning of bands I don?t really know very well, because my range of music knowledge seem to stop on T. This band is a black metal based on very old black metal bands like good old Hellhammer and they rock. This track is a very heavy one with a great melody in it. Not really a fan though.
Voivod ? Mercury
Not a real fan of the band but I?m surely stuck. This is one of the few tracks from them that I can stand, maybe because is somewhat softer then other tracks they have. I never listened much from them though.
Wizard ? Hall of Odin
Another track with a fantasy theme, that, by now, you all know is one of my trademarks (along with orchestra arrangement). This guy?s play pure heavy metal with some power metal twists here and there. This track is one of the most power metal ones, so I really like it.
X-Wild ? Clash of the Titans
X-Wild is a band formed by members of Running Wild, and, while sounding different they have a great sound. This track is very power metal like and has very interesting lyrics.
Yngwie J. Malmsteen? Dream On
Malmsteen is the neoclassical guitar god; every guitar player that loves this kind of music loves him. This song is cooperation between him and the vocal god James Dio and it makes a great combination. While not very heavy, and mo
re on the rock side, this music has a great message and great sound.
Zonata - Heroes Of The Universe
Zonata is a Swedish power metal band and they are really good, without having to copy exactly others bands style. This is an epic track that have a great lyrics and sounds amazingly good for a not so well known band (in the metal community I mean)
And that?s it. I confess I was almost quitting in some places, but then I remembered bands from my winamp play list.
