THE BAND
-------------------
My Dying Bride, from Yorkshire, UK, were formed in 1990 by Aaron Stainthorpe (vocals), Andrew Craighan (Guitar), Calvin Robertshaw (Guitars) and Rick Miah (Drums). The release of the demo, "Towards The Sinister" (1990) and the 7" single "God Is Alone" (1991), lead to a record deal with Peaceville Records, who the band are still signed to to this very day. My Dying Bride were probably the first Doom Metal band to utilize a real violin on their early albums, and the band has become probably the most well known Death Doom Metal band in the world.

THE SOUND
--------------
My Dying Bride's sound has evolved over the years. While the band started as a Death Metal band, they soon introduced real violins and gothic elements in their music. My Dying Bride is known for slow and soft passionate melodies over crushingly heavy guitars, dirge like singing of woe and hopelessness, guttural growls of despair, and the occasional full on blast of Death Metal aggression.

SELECTED DISCOGRAPHY

(1992) As the Flower Withers
(1993) Turn Loose the Swans
(1995) The Angel and the Dark River
(1996) Like Gods of the Sun

RECOMMENDED ALBUM
-----------------------------
Arguably the most classic My Dying Bride album of all time is "Turn Loose the Swans" from 1993. This is the first album where Aaron started singing in addition to growling.

Summary: Songs of Darkness, Words of Light

Fantastic band. I saw them in London one Halloween, the whole crowd wore black - obviously - and the band turned up all wearing bright white. Nice look!

My younger son used to be a big fan. Can't say I ever understood the appeal myself, but that's the role of a parent.
