I'll admit I'm cheating a little bit here, one my review of "Four leaves left" by Nick Drake I wrote a little biography of him, that I realised wasn't far off the standards of the other reviews of Nick, so I though I'd post it here and extend it. When we talk about the greats of music through the 60's and 70's we seem to be bogged down with mentions of bands like The Who, The Beatles and ABBA amongst others. Now whilst they all have their place in peoples memory's (yes sadly ABBA are in my memory), an understated young man is missed from most mentions, and yet is argueably the most talented musician of the time. Nick Drake seems to be an extremely underestimated musician nowadays. I think part of the problem is that when he was alive he didn’t have the confidence to slam his music in the faces of the general public and so only those who ‘discover’ his music enjoy it. It is rarely played on radio or TV. I think deep down he probably wanted the fame and the money but lacked the ability to go and grab it with both hands. Then again, maybe he did not and wanted to keep his music close to his heart. Who am I to say?
