Advantages: Erm...
Disadvantages: The band, The music
Okay kids, I first have to confess that I have seen Papa Roach twice. And, I own Infest, although I did drop it in the car park and it looks a little fractured. I heard Last Resort, like you do, at the beginning of the year. I went out and bought the album. Their tour more or less coincided with my birthday so I paid £10 for my ticket and trundled off to see them at Rock City, Nottingham. Now, I know I'm talking Papa Roach in general but some kind of reference must be made to them live, on their own tour. They were pants. For some unknown reason, the had (hed) p.e. supporting them, a band which I thought were more well known and, well, bigger than Papa Roach. Papa Roach's set was quite short, and made even shorter by the lack of encore. Coby Dick's weilding of a can of lager and squaking "Who here's an alcoholic?" made me laugh. The interraction with the crowd was cheesy but thankfully minimal. They blasted through the songs, one after the other. Of course after paying my hard earned cash, I began to feel a little cheated and heard them in a new, erm, way. Infest is entirely reminiscent of Korn: downtuned guitars, emotional lyrics. Critics of this view would argue that P.R. have been around as a band longer than Korn...but who made it to the big time first? The lyrics are blatant "Poor little old me". I hear them and can't help but think "Bothered". In their videos, they are actually quite good but get them in front of their fans and they look a little, well, uncomfortable. Or bored, I'm never sure which. I saw them at Leeds Festival. I think I was having breakfast, and almost choked on my bacon baguette as Coby Dick hit himself on the forehead with his microphone (Did you see the mark on his forehead at the Kerrang! Awards? At least Casey Chaos has a leedle more style). And rubbing mud on his face? Er...why? Was this a blatant attempt to get close to the dirty, smelly cor
wd. And all our "positive energy". Puh-lease. He began to sound like a cross between Boy Hits Car and N*Sync. To sum up: self pitying lyrics and music that chugs, crashes and burns. At least Manson had entertainment value.

- 13/09/01 I disagree, I love Papa Roach, hence my name folks, their album for me is brilliant, a few weak tracks like most albums but i love it. I have also seen them live twice, n wouldn't refund a penny; both times I saw them, their performance has been magical! |

- 12/09/01 I'm beginning to see what you mean. I do like listening to Infest occasionally, and did regularly when it came out. I went to see them in Brixton, and at Reading.
I found that live their sound quality isn't that great, the distortion on the guitars has an annoying fuzz to it. Also at Reading Coby spent half the time lying down on the ground or in the crowd, telling us how much "potential" we have and to "live our dreams" etc.
I guess they're alright, but the act is starting to wear thin now.
