WELL PEOPLE, THIS OPINION IS SURE TO BE ONE YOU WOULD EXPECT FROM ME. I MEAN PAPA ROACH IS ME, THEIR MUSIC FILLS MY SOUL WITH HARMONIC NOISES, WELL SWEET SOUNDS. PAPA ROACH MAY NOT BE YOU, THOUGH THEY ARE ME.

So whats with all the ‘Papa Roach are the greatest’ well okay the Roach aren’t the greatest, they probably never will be and to be honest, I don’t ever expect them to surpass legends such as the Beatles. I like Papa Roach as their music likes me, by this I mean it lifts my mood, and sends signals around the house I’m still alive!

OK SO WHO ARE PAPA ROACH?

Papa Roach, are a nu-metal band. Ok so now you are asking what Nu-Metal is, fear not here is my explanation: -

Nu-Metal is when there is a combination of hip-hop, groove-funk and a bit of Hardcore. This produces quite a distinctive type of music and bands like Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit and Korn are also nu-metal bands.

Papa Roach has four bands members who are, Coby Dick (who looks like my best pal Jay, see profile,) Tobin Esperance, Jerry Horton and Dave Buckner. The Roach formed in 1993, after they grew up together in Vacaville, Calafornia.

Papa Roach hit Americans’ by storm with their debut album Infest, which reached a top five position in the American Charts. These un-known wannabe Rock Stars, quickly became idolised by teenagers and adults alike throughout the states, Europe okay the whole world folks!

One afternoon, whilst I was still oblivious to Papa Roach’s existence and long before their domination of the Rock Charts, I was sitting on my computer talking to a mate. This mate Keiran knew all the bands to look out for, the bands which were going places. So he said to me, Hollz got two bands for you both from the States, Papa Roach and Alien Ant Farm. I thank two things: Keiran and Napster!

Napster was a god send when it was about (another matter completely.) I was told to downlo
ad the song Last Resort by the Roach, I did and immediately it kind of became my song, I really related to the lyrics. If you have read a few of my other opinions, you may understand why I relate too, “Don’t give a fuck if I cut ma arm bleedin.” So that was the song that introduced me to these guys, of course their best mates are Alien Ant Farm, who also recently released their debut album, Anthology!

Infest, the debut album has the following tracks: -

Infest; Last Resort; Broken Home; Dead Cell; Between Angels And Insects; Blood Brothers; Revenge; Snakes; Never Enough; Binge; Thrown Away

I have seen Papa Roach live twice, once at the Glasgow Barrowlands with the support of Alien Ant Farm and secondly at Glasgow Gig on the Green, oh yeah Alien Ant farm played that day as well – the two come together, my two favorite bands so I don’t really mind! When Papa Roach play live, they don’t just give you entertainment but also a high degree of energy. Their show is always bursting with the stuff and as a Mosher, this is only good news. The vibes that go round, the danger you put yourself in when you are in a mosh pit is un-believable. Remarkable how I survive those things being the height I am, really amazing!

Although, Papa Roach come with the explicit lyrics tag, this should not put people off, so they swear, big deal? I suppose I really like the Roach so much as I do relate to their songs, they bring a little warmth into my life, sad eh?

So that’s all I can think to say about Papa Roach in general, did I mention Coby’s good looks? I think Papa Roach are going to be a success story, especially if the success of infest carries on. So folks if you haven’t listened to these guys, then please do unless it’s the complete opposite genre to you tastes. When these four guys formed a band called Papa Roach, they never saw it as a Last Resort!
