Disadvantages: one stinker= black clouds
dooyoo the page for papa roach new one isn't up yet so i'm reviewing it here. lovehatetragedy. what can i say? i've always disliked papa roach. infest was possibly one of the worst nu-metal albums of the whole crap bunch. i cringed at its oldd school rapping and its juvenile a to b guitar tunes. it was just bad. once in a while an album comes along that changes your whole perception of a band. lovehatetragedy is that album for papa roach. not only is it a drastic style change it has firmly taken papa roach out of the rap metal genre and has put them more into a pure rock band who just want to rock out. this album is nothing like infest at all. so fans of that piece of s**t will be disappointed. lovehatetragedy incorporates stylistic oriental grooves, black sabbath style vocals from newly named shaddix (not coby dick than you!), orchestral style arrangements, and a whole darker feel to infests more cartoon rap feel. first track m-80 starts with a 4 hats and a 1,2,3,4. do you know how refreshing that is in today's rock scene? it's a return to the old days of garage punk. while it may not be that big you say- it certainly elevated me. it was so refreshing in days of three chord nu-metal introductions. then the tune comes in. something completely different from what roach has ever done. a crossover of indian grooves and psychedelic themes. then shaddixs vocals come in. not rap, thank the heavens! singing like kurt cobain. but this is no cobain impression, shaddix now has one of the most recognisable voices in rock today. a mixture of pavarotti opera and cobains rusky snarlings. beautiful. there is no chorus in this track in fact whta's so good about it is it keeps away from all stereotypes. beautiful track 8/10. life is a bullet is one of the best nu-metal tracks ever made. ytou have to hear it to believe it. it performs unbelievably well in its genre. 9/10. oh i can't be fagged to write about all
the tracks as i usually do. i feel doing that just doesn't give readers the feeling of the album, it just ruins the experience for them. so let me break it down like this: lovehatetragedy is one of the finest rock albums released this year that stays away from all preconceptions. it just rocks. what's the biggest surprise is thta its a rock opera- one track fades into the next telling a story throughout. i just realised this a few minutes ago while listening to the record again. that again is so refreshing- a rock opera dude. if you're not drooling with the thought about that you don't deserve to know rock music. believe me its a classic story. the record has garage punk influences as seen on the robust m-80. the last track lovehatetragedy has no tune at all- its just a jam filled with risky vocals. so is this album the equivalent of weezer's pinkerton. yes, no doubt about it. it's dark, edgy and a rock opera and both have great tunes. believe me even if you hate papa roach buy this album. i hated them before i heard this, i hated infest, i hated everything about papa roach. while they might not be my favourite band, i now give them the respect they deserve. buy this now and be surprised and enthralled.

- 02/07/02 True, Infest wasn't the most original or intelligent album ever created, it is a typical nu-metal album. However, I get the feeling from you that you slag off nu-metal simply because it's fashionable to do so. The fact that you like Blink 182 shows to me that you don't really appreciate intelligent music that pushes the boundaries of whatever genre it is in. I personally liked Infest - yes, the rapping was poor, no, it's not particularly innovative, but the sheer emotion conveyed in the words is quite refreshing in a fake, manufactured music industry like today's. |

- 21/06/02 Okay, you didn't like Infest and a fair do to that. Papa Roach certainly do have a new image, and ok Infest appealed to me but so does lovehatetradgedy. I bought the album on Monday and I applied for the cateogry on dooyoo so hopefully it will appear soon, and I'll write what I think. It's an exciting album, worth the money and having bought infest a year ago, long awaited. Good opinion but grammar lacks. |

- 19/06/02 How come it's one of your favourite albums and talked up so much in your op, but only given 3*? |
