Advantages: Good back catalogue

Disadvantages: getting too old, dosent seem bothered anymore

The Jam were the best band on the planet. The Style Conncil were smooth, harmonious and soulful. So when Paul Weller kicked off his solo career in 1991,I was expecting big things. When we went to see him at the Sheffield Octogon centre,he was in great form, belting out old Jam songs as well as new,raw sounding material.
His first solo album was quite good, the follow up,Wildwood was even better. Then came Stanley Road, the best album of his career.Great songs like You Do Something To Me and The Changingman showed that he could still pull a song out of the top drawer.
His lastet album Heliocentric, released earlier this year,is nowhere near as good as it could have been.He now seems to concentrate more of his time playing about with Oasis and Ocean Colour Scene than he does putting his own stuff together. Why the album came out before any singles were released is a mystery to me.There are two good tracks on the entire album,The Keeper and Picking Up Sticks, but apart from this there is little else.
If he has had enough,as this album seems to show,he should just retire and leave us while we still have fond memories of the man.
