Have you ever noticed how all of the really good soundtracks almost always have something to do with Peter Gabriel? There's something surreal about the way he writes. There can be a song you hear a couple of chords to, and it'll stick with you for days on end and you don't know what it is, who it's by or where it's from. And then somehow, you'll find out it was Peter Gabriel's song from that film 'Blaaahh'. 'Magnolia', 'Vanilla Sky' and 'Say Anything', to name just a few. Oh, and 'City of Angels'. Take a listen to Gabriel's music and you will find that a) you will like it, and b) you wouldn't be able to put a date to it. Gabriel writes his music like an engineer designs a product - it lasts forever and it will always be brilliant. The way that his albums are crafted puts him into another league and separates him from the current Make-A-Noise-And-Call-It-Music bands and "musicians" of today. Each album features different musical styles and influences - have a quick listen to OVO (which, incidentally, was written and produced for the ill-fated Millennium Dome Experience) - it is extremely well-produced and features a varying range of ... Peter Gabriel, former member of Genesis, founder of "Realworld" (hosting and promoting artists from all over the world, during Realworld Recording Week), co-founder of the Witness foundation (which gives camcorders etc to human rights organizations to help document abuses) and song-writer extraordinaire, is not to be confused with other former members of the aforementioned band with weaker claims to political right-on-ness. The problem with Peter is that he comes across as just so earnest that he may seriously damage your street-cred.
