Well, this could take some time. Of all my favourite bands, the Floyd are the one who've been around the longest, and have been in my music collection the longest, and their back-catalogue is extensive to say the least. Unlike most of the bands I've been reviewing lately, I doubt that this one needs much of an introduction or an in-depth description of their music style. For one thing, their musical style varies wildly from album to album, incorporating elements of funk, blues, jazz and gospel into their trademark prog-rock soundscapes. The only way to review Pink Floyd properly is to do so chronologically, highlighting each studio album, personnel ... Read the complete review

Pink Floyd. Rock dinosaurs. Revered by drugged out hippies everywhere. Outwardly boring men who believed they could address the world's problems through the medium of very long guitar solos. The supreme example of prog rock self-indulgence. They'll probably all be knighted at some point. In spite of these entirely justified criticisms, there are a few Pink Floyd albums that are perennial favourites of mine. The band emerged in London in the mid-sixties. Led by charismatic guitarist/singer/songwriter Syd Barrett, with Nick Mason on drums, Richard Wright on keyboards, and the profoundly ugly Roger Waters on bass. They started out playing ... Symbolic and surreal, ‘The Wall’ defies categorisation of genre: animated film; musical; contemporary art? I first watched ‘The Wall’ (directed by Alan Parker) when I was 15. Even then I could see the powerful messages which were being portrayed through the use of imagery, cinematography and the music and lyrics of Pink Floyd. However, to fully appreciate the depth of ‘The Wall’, the film becomes even more enjoyable when watched more than once. So over the years I have revisited the life of Pink (Bob Geldof), a musical performer who in a drug induced state revisits his past and looks at a future where he is a powerful ... Pink Floyd collection of great dance songs. I like lots of different kinds of music. Pink Floyd is a band that I have liked from when I was young. I have a lot of their records on Vinyl. When I saw a cd entitled a collection of great dance tunes I could not resist it. This C D contains a few songs from when I first listened to Pink Floyd at the age of 16/17 in 1971, up to songs produced in 1981. When I was a young teenager I did not listen to pop music much preferring to listen to underground music, I guess I was being a bit snobby I wanted to be different, not one of the sheep. I listened to the old grey whistle test rather than top of ... Read the complete review

It seems to me that pink floyd get slightly overlooked these days, but what they have to offer is still amazing. Of course they're more or less dormant today, with occasional live albums (Pulse, the wall live) coming out, and a greatest hits is rumoured to be released at the end of this year. But it's the albums of 25-30 years ago which can match anything today in my opinion, the ubiquitous prism design of "dark side of the moon" has worked it's way into the folklore of music history, some call it the greatest album of all time, and it spent the best part of 19 years in the american charts. The following albums, wish you ... Read the complete review
