I never really liked Queen. Oh yes, I knew all the hits and even loved some of them - 'Bohemian Rhapsody' reminding me of christmas parties 'round at the local Labour club and 'Killer Queen' bringing back those heady days when video recorders first hit the market (my father had gotten hold of a 'pirated' tape with ELO's 1978 concert at Wembley, Motorhead's 'No Sleep 'til Hammersmith' gig and Queen's greatest hits). Me and my brother sat and watched the tape until not even the tracking control had any effect on the picture and then, as the sound started to act up, we would skip over the wire on the remote(?) control to pass the time until the old man sorted out some ... 'Bohemian Rhapsody'... It was an amazing piece of rock history, a stunning tour de force, epic in intention and stunning in execution, with a slow, soft beginning, with Freddie Mercury's piano and voice, built through a breathtaking mini opera of a middle section with overdubbed vocals to a grinding heavy metal section before calming down to the breathy "Any way the wind blows...." conclusion. It rocketed Queen ... Read the complete review

As a 7 year old, Freddie Mercury was my greatest hero, in my opinion, he was the only man who could sing, as was Roger Taylor the only man who could play drums properly, No one could beat John Deacon (or his Hilda Ogden T-Shirt) on the base guitar, and no one was as electrifying as Brian May on the good old electric guitar. I was ridiculed by friends, who were all going through the "Bros" and "Aha" phase, but I didn’t care, cause they were just jealous that they didn’t support as good a band as I did. John Deacon was the quiet one of the band, never seemed to say much, but had a strong ... Read the complete review

Britain has produced countless numbers of immensely talented bands with immensely talented members and surely Queen are one of these. Few can match their popularity or their musical ability. I'm sure a few people will disagree with this next point but I believe Queen are more talented than the Beatles or Led Zeppelin who are two of the most talented Brittish bands of all time. Queen were made up of bassist John Deacon, drummer Roger Taylor, guitarist Brian May and of course the legendery songer Freddie Mercury. Their first album simply named "Queen" was released in 1973 and although it wasn't a huge hit it did enough to gain the band recognition ... Read the complete review
