Advantages: Talented, humourous, and extremely sexy!
Disadvantages: I didn't get to go up on the stage and dance with him.
Robbie Williams strolled up onto the stage to chants of "Robbie Robbie" looking fit and happy. Dressed casually in denims and a T-shirt. He put the crowd, and himself at ease with his humorous banter. "I've gotta mime this song, but the thing is I don't know all the words."
The crowd made up almost exclusively of Robster Fans laughed and didn't seem to care as their idol continued "If you see me do this" (curls his hand round the top of his microphone covering his mouth) "It's cause I don't know the words, it's gonna be really funny right cause when you watch this on the telly you'll see me doing this and know why"
The crowd cheered and the playback tape started. Of course Robbie wasn't ready, he was talking to a member of the audience asking if his hair was OK, "Hang on Hang on I wasn't ready - I was talking to you" he laughed. Playback started again and Robbie Williams performed his new single I Don't Wanna Rock DJ with all the style we have come to expect from him. He interacted with the crowd and showed his new fitness in his moves.
The crowd danced and sung along screaming at the appropriate parts, causing the rest of the band to smile and appear knowledgeable at how their mate worked the audience. As the playback faded out the crowd cheered and screamed and I was reminded of the old Take That days.
As was Robbie it seemed - "I've just done an ad for Pepsi" he said to wails from the audience. "God you'll scream at anything won't you?" he said looking slightly sarcastic. "What about Pedigree Chum?....Will you scream at that?....I've just done an ad for Pedigree Chum!" The noise that came from the audience may not have been anticipated by Mr Williams making him look more than a little peeved. He turned his back on the crowd and exchanged glances with Fil who looked almost sympathetic.
r>The taped rolled out the sound of the Pepsi Ad song United and the crowd swayed in time. Robbie seemed to know the words to this one, and mimed convincingly. All the old moves were in there and the audience joined in with the familiar arm movements of Millennium in the chorus.
Robbie Williams looked every bit the confident performer, and showed us that he can still 'kick it' more than ever in his first live appearance for more than a year.
