Advantages: wow the man himself live
Disadvantages: not so good if you can't stand the man
There are a few days in your life that you will never forget such as your wedding day, birth of your children first day down the pub and many more, but for me seeing Robbie Williams live comes third after my children being born and oh yes my first day in the pub. On the 5th of August 2001 at Hamden park Glasgow I was lucky enough (along with 60,000 others to witness Robbie Williams put on a stonker of a show. I had always fancied seeing Robbie as I liked his music and had heard great things about his gigs but when he last came to Glasgow in October last year I couldn't go as I was eight and a half months pregnant at the time so when he announced Glasgow dates for this tour I was excited. My poor brother in law queued up for five hours outside the secc for tickets in December and while I was sleeping he managed to get the all important tickets. That was the best message left on my answermachine yet to tell me he had the tickets. We left in plenty of time to arrive last night as Hampden Park is only ten minutes away from my house and when we arrived the atmosphere was simply electric and that was before we entered the stadium. 60 thousand fans eagerly awaiting the man himself. The crowds were singing and dancing but alas we missed ABC performing oh well. Toploader were also supporting Robbie and I must say they gave a stunning performance so much so that they have gained a new fan. The crowd was going wild at this point and when the MC announced that Robbie would be onstage in five minutes they went absolutely crazy. My body was tingling at the thought of seeing him live. He bounded on stage and I heard screaming all round me and I am a bit ashamed to say most of it was mine. I felt like I was 12 years old again and screaming at Duran Duran but I wasn't alone many people of my age were there and I hardly saw any teeny boppers at all. He opened the show with Let Me Entertain You and from start to finish he
certainly did. He was simply superb and spoke to the crowd constantly between songs and told us a few tales. He went on to sing all his hit's such as Rock DJ and Angels, Millenium and she's the one and many more. When he sang kids they played the video with Kylie and he sang his own part and then rather cheekily said if ya wanna know the truth about Kylie fellas then yes I did which got a great response. His energy knew no limits and he bounded across the stage constantly and communicated with the crowd all the time. At one point he invited us all back to his hotel room at Cameron House saying the manager wouldn't mind if 60 thousand of his closest friends joined him for a drink. The response from the crowd at all times was electric with everyone singing and dancing and enjoying themself imensely. I have never been to a gig with a better atmosphere. He sang for two hours and entertained throughougt and when it came to the last song We are the Champions we were crying for more but alas it had to end sometime and with a firework display Robbie did it is style. Fat dancer from take that NO Chance, god maybe but he rocked my world and Glasgow will never be the same. And in true Scottish words Robbie Haste ye Back.

daiquiri - 16/08/01 Glad you had a great time - I saw him at Milton Keynes and it was excellent! Seems that all his gigs are top class - what a guy (sigh) |
