Advantages: Greatest soul duo ever

Sam and Dave were one of the best live soul acts of the 60's, they were souls most popular duo, they scored a lot of hits, the most popular being, Hold On I'm Coming and Soul Man.

Sam and Dave first signed up with roulette records in the early sixties but they enjoyed very little success.

There luck changed in 1965 when Atlantic signed the duo up, the pair then enjoyed 2 years of great success, in 1969 the pair split up.

They did reunite twice that was between1972 and 1981 there success rocketed once again; as a result the duo won a place in the rock and roll hall of fame in 1992.

Sam and Dave have produced some of the best soul work the world has ever seen.
There are plenty of Sam and Dave albums around the more recent are Soul Man, The Very Best, Sweet soul Anthology and the Best Soul.

Also no compilation soul album would be complete with out the pair.

Advice needed
I was wondering whether anybody could tell me what soul artist sang this song, as I'm dying to buy some of his work.
It goes like this: Because that police dog changed my life, I have lost all my money and my brand new Stetson hat, ba ba ba ba ba ba ba Oh Stagelee Oh stagelee.
