Shania Twain is a Canadian, who was raised in Timmins, Ontario. She has indeed put her home town on the map. She was born Eilleen Regina Edwards (August 1965) in Windsor, Ontario which is only a 2hour drive from where I live. Her name was changed from Eileen to Shania as she pursued her music career, the name is an Ojibwa North American Indian name meaning ??I?m on my way??. Her hometown recently made public to open ??The Shania Twain Interpretive Centre?? in her honor. It will house exhibits and memorabilia of Shania?s.
She started to play guitar at the age of 8 and was soon entertaining who ever she could. She traveled to Toronto to pursue a career but returned to take care of her siblings when her parents died. They were both killed in a automobile accident in 1987.
She had one album out before hitting the jackpot with ??The Woman In Me?? in 1995. It has sold over 12 million copies and has brought her many awards. Her next album, ??Come On Over??, superseded sales with over 18 millions copies sold. This album has been gold with every song released as a single becoming a hit (7 in all).
She changed the fashion world with her revealing midriff- bearing outfits. She walks tall even though she is only petite in stature of 5?4?? and 110 pounds. It has to do with how she carries herself. She was said to shock the awards when she sang ??Man! I Feel Like A Woman?? with her revealing outfit of high boots low cut top and mini skirt that added new meaning to the word ??mini??.
She met and married her producer, Robert John ??Mutt?? Lange, 8 years ago. They co-write most of her songs together and she is now expecting their first child in a few months. They purchased a castle in Switzerland and she is refraining from touring at the moment.
Country music will never be the same since Shania hit the scene. She has helped change the meaning of "country" with her controversial lyrics, midriff trademark and crossover style into
the pop charts. She has done music for movies such as "You?ve Got A Way" (Notting Hill Remix) for Notting Hill starring Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant and "No One Needs To Know" for Twister, starring Helen Hunt.
Shania?s bookcase is full of awards, yet she has never shown up to accept any Canadian awards. She seems to shy away from her heritage. Her music will be remembered for a long time to come. Shania Twain is a great artist, in her own right.
The Woman in me is a great Cd and one that has entertained many so enjoy!
