...and, as your feet touch the tarmac outside the venue, it's only then that you realise what's just happened. You've seen the greatest show on earth. Sigur Ros are the best band i've seen live, ever! and thats putting it lightly! The venue was as beautiful as the music- a crystal chandelier, candles, a star filled backdrop and the ornate nature of the Varieties Music Hall in Leeds all set the tone for this truly magnificent band. I thought the album was absolutely fantastic, but Sigur Ros excel themselves live. It is difficult to write an opinion about something you really love when you can’t quite express why it is that you love it. I can’t pick any holes in this album, and other people I know who have heard it love it too - even my Neil-Diamond-fan mum (not knocking Neil Diamond - he rocks :o) ) This is definitely something to chill out to. The Icelandic Sigur Ros (which apparently means Victory Rose) create ethereal masterpieces luxuriously layered with instruments and strange sounding vocals. ‘Svern g-englar’ sounds like your CD is skipping or going backwards, and because it is sung in Icelandic you may feel a little disorientated ... The Stone Roses-esque intro seems to flow backwards like Full Fathom Five, drawing you into the distinctive and hypnotically ambient sound of Icelandic lethargy-rock. This is ideal music for relaxing to, falling asleep to, reading to, or if you're really adventurous, listening to. Just don't expect to understand what's being said as it's all in Icelandic. The language barrier, as with Super Furries' Mwng doesn't stop you enjoying the melodies and the sonic spiralling of the lead singer. The singer's voice is great: delicate sounding and versatile.
