I think they are good because they can play heavy metal and there a creepy band with there masks and there singer has i sinister sound. the only problem with them is almost every song sounds the same, and they have too many members but thats what gives them there personal sound. I wasnt a big slipknot fan till me and my girlfriend broke up there music is so filled with hate it took my mind off of her while i listened to them , so i didnt have to feel bad about my self and when she wanted to get back together i screamed at her and didnt feel bad about it. Thanks slipknot for unleashing my hate upon the world.you guys are the reason i wanna be in a band and unlesh other teens hate upon the world so keep playin strong and keep up the hate.
I'm in a bit of a dilemma here, I really, really want to hate Slipknot because they seem to have spawned legions of pre-teen psudo fans that are clogging up town centres up and down the country. Unfortunately the Slipknot image has all but eclipsed the music itself and it seems to regard oneself as a Slipknot fan you must don the whole regalia and basically act like a complete git towards anyone else who isn't part of this great pointless rebellion. Gripes about the fans aside however, Slipknot do have the makings of a seriously great metal band, they suffer ocassionally from falling into pointless noise noodlings and frankly daft lyrics ("If you're 555 I'm 666" I mean really.......) but then they go and slap you upside the head with a killer riff that makes you stand up and take notice. For instance the breakdown in "Surfacing" and similarly in "Disasterpiece". When Joey Jordison really starts showing us some of his double bass drum talent and Mick and James start riffing less like Korn and more like Morbid Angel. I think perhaps the nine members is perhaps too many members, as the saying goes "Too many cooks spoil the broth" and I think the case maybe applicable here. I don't think the band benefits from a DJ for instance, the scratchy effects could just as easily be done by the sample guy. Also looking at the stage show the Clown and the Big-Nosed guy just seem to be there to beat the crap out of each other for the audience's amusement so it makes me wonder what contributions they actually make in the studio. They seem to me to be trying to haphazardly bridge the gap between Korn-esque stuff and more traditional thrash and death metal, it doesn't seem to come across as a smooth transition but more of a collision. There isn't an integration of both styles throughout the song, it's more a case of one minute it's big sludgey riffs then fast thrashy riffs.
To sum up, they are a good band and the talent is evident. I just find them difficult to listen to because of the haphazard mix of styles, dodgy lyrics and silly spoilt-child baiting image. If they had a better overall direction in their music then I would like them a lot more. But this is only my opinion.
Right..... My Opinion On Slipknot. I havent been listning 2 slipknot very long but i must say THEY RULE!!!!! Um.... I don't have any albums or any singles or any thing to do with slippknot but whenever i go to see my mate he has always got slipknot on,and i'm round there guite alot so you can see why i like them so much. My fav songs are probaly All of them really.I like them so much coz i am always listning to them with my mate. If you listen to them enuf then you grow to love them like all slipknot fans do. I really like my plague and wait and bleed. DAMMIT! I'm no good @ theses things!! I am new here and havent got many reads. Any way back 2 slipknot! I would like to get some albums, tops, jeans, singles etc... My mate (the 1 that's always listning 2 slipknot) has iowa and we both love it!
Well my thoughts on slipknot are that they are the worst band that i have ever heard!! they cannot sing, cannot play the guitar, cannot write music, they cannot do anythin!!!!!!!!! all they are is a pill of crap!!!!!! hte first song that heard buy them was 'Wait and bleed1 and at first i kinda liked this song, but now it is played too much and i HATE it and everything else that i have heard by them!!!!!!! i even went out and got the album, how daft was that, cos when i listened to i knew as soon as i put it on i had been really stupid and wasted my money! so i am warning anyone who is thinkin of buyin anything buy them, DONT!! cos you will waste your money!!
Slipknot are a so called rock group. But to be truly honest i dont think you could call the noise they make music. All they seem to do is shout. The group also wear masks. I find these masks quite scary and I must say they have bo talent, any fool could stand on a stage wearign a mask and shout. I am not against rock music. In fact i am a fan of it and have several rock artists albums. But slipknot are goin one step too far. I think this band could have serious effects on young children. Young children are allways trying to be fashionable and listen to the in thing, but if they saw these men in there masks screaming obscene words it could have a really bad effect and could influence them, especially if they are at an impressionalble age. Many young people in there teens like Slipknot. Im sure they dont really like the music but just claim to like it to appear "hard" or cool. I have a friend who is a slipknot fan and i can't understand why. she has a hoody with slipknot on it and gets alot of coments about how bad Slipknot are, so im not the only one that dissagrees with them. There concerts are supposed to be outragious with unmentionable thigns taking place o nthe stage. There should be a strict age limit to going to such concerts perhaps 18+ would be the correct age to subject people to this sort of behaviour. i was not quick to judge Slipknot either, I was browsing through the music chanels on sky and saw them and decided to listen to them so i could see what all the fuss was about i soon turned over i couldn't stand listening to it. I have heard them severel times and they have allways had the same effect on me. The people who listen to Them seem to be bad. The people at my school who are fans seem to be the ones using foul language and constantly getting into trouble. Is this the effect of listening to such music? Well it certainly must have some effect, and it definetily can't help. I conclude that Slipknot are untalented men
who shout and take advantage of impressionable young people. These men are obviously ashamed of what they do, why else would they wear masks?
Slipknot are the most controversial metal group of the world today, they have caused havoc in the parents minds today, and they have stormed through with a fantastic album, IOWA. The nine, mask wearing, new metal stars, have produced a sensational style with more uniqueness then System Of A Down. People say that they just copy others in style, the more poular ones being people such as Korn and Deftones. Yet groups like soil have been influenced by them, and sort of copied Slipknots work. People find Slipknot weird, scary, offensive and downright rude but in reality the band say it's all about the kids. Now, no offence to the band but that appears to be a gimmick. The videos are outrageous, and generally show kids with knives, weapons etc. A good example is the 'Left Behind' video, of the IOWA album. It features an unpopular young child, with a butchers knife, thinking of what damage he could do. The child?s house being a totally condemned tip with thick brown water in his cereal, from the tap. It's nasty. But the song rocks. The best song by Slipknot has to be either Dilute, or Left behind. They are both classics in their own right. But not only Slipknot sing 'grunge' (as it is often referred too) well. Korn have produced two particularly stunning songs called Follow the Leader, and Blind. Soil have produced a brilliant song called 'Halo'. And Deftones have made tens of great tunes. The odd, freakish masks have made people more weary of the world today. They have influenced the clothes, the hats and even the digital gadgets we wear today. It has formed the new fashion 'grunger', like Marilyn Manson has encouraged the style of 'goth'. And even like Ali G has influenced the style of 'Rude Boy'. Over the last few years, the music industry, has substantially changed. About four years ago, the music was hip hop, R&B and we were on the brink of the UK garage scene
. From what I?ve seen, most people reviewing Slipknot have been 'burning' and 'dissing' Slipknot. They have been wondering how it takes nine blokes in clown cossys to make the music, well my reply to that is, 3 or so don?t make the music they just dance, they are all the band though. They most controversial band in the world of course do well. Why not? Eminem has major success. Dr Dre has made major success. And even Korn have done well. Slipknot have, like many new metal bands, won awards. They have made posters, been publicised and done anything they could to get noticed, but they say the masks are for minimal recognition, and they also put tar on their faces, once again for minimal recognition, but why the advertisements? I hear you ask, they want the music recognised, not them. It's simple when you think about it. So, in conclusion, the freaks of metal have sustained a long term respect by me, and they have made millions worldwide. So, come on, you must realise that they ain't that bad
This so called "Band" formed in 1995 smash drums and scream very loudly plucking a guitar string or two. They claim this is music... In the technical sense of the word, I guess they are right, this is music but then so is blowing my nose and tapping my desk and humming (which actually makes a nicer sound). There form of music which is not only tuneless, but dull and repetitive, attracts massive crowds of fans. Now these fans are mainly teenagers with a couple of immature twenty year olds. I would like you to find me one real slipknot fan who is over 30. Now a big issue here is why do people listen to this ear ache inducing band? The majority of their fans as I said are teenagers and pretty much all of them are insecure teenagers full of teen angst, who are only able to express themselves through their obsession with this music. These avid fans not only like their music but apparently like ot dress up in their branded clothes conforming to their growing commercialism. You cannot say "I like slipknot, I hate all that commercial crap" because you will find they are as commercial as pop band like steps. They are premoted just like any other band. They are even more commercial and artificial than many bands in the fact that they are deliberately shocking and screwed up as part of their public relations act - it atracts young naive fans who think that it is cool that they cut themselves on stage and scream from behind masks... ...ooo what a novel idea, masks! Wow, big deal..."scary" masks! They probably wear the masks so not to be recognised in their probably normal lives, and yes I'm sure they do live normal lives and listen to real music! Their whole music/act is just an act, its not real, they do all the crazy things to get publicity, attention more commercial than steps I would say! This band who claim to be alternative are only an alternative way of making money, and they mainly do this
through the insecure teenagers who follow them and buy their hooded sweatshirts and hang around parks discussing how "good" they are....hmmm. Having heard plenty enough of their music I can say that they are certainly not "good". The only credit I can possibly give them is that the percussion is quite good in a technical sense, as they play very hard complicated, strange things. However overall they are band who will be soon left behind when all their fans grow up. Toby
Its taken 9 men from the middle of nowhere, 2 great albums and millions of "maggots" over the world to put Slipknot where they are today. Whether you love them or you hate them, Slipknot are here to stay. Many people hate their music, their attitudes and their masks but many people simply cannot appreciate Slipknot and cannot see beyond those masks that so many people love and hate. They have been working for many years against the odds from the middle of nowhere to bring out music that is so diferent from anything experienced, the success story of Slipknot is rather a "miricle" because they ahve come from Iowa, Des moines to try and change the face of music, which they have succeded. Any band that can hold 9 members each unique and different to the next, who all together create a sound that no one has dared touch, have their doubters. Many people didn't take them seriously to start with, many people couldn't see beyond the masks, being able to understand their anger in the songs they play can help you try and graspe their music. Corey himself didn't even know his father and shows his anger in "eyeless", also songs like "people=shit" and "My plague" show why Slipknot are angry, care to look at their lyrics, and Slipknot know they are against a world of haters, but for every person that hates them, there is someone that can relate to their music and love them for it. Shawn (aka. The clown) one of two percussionists was a welder before he was in Slipknot and made his own instruments, showing not only Slipknot being able to make unique music, but to style their own instruments to their satisifaction, and play like no one has ever played. Slipknot have been fighting the odds for a long time, and will continue to, but with a large fanbase and many people behind them now, SLipknot can continue to make unique music and conquer the world by storm, this...is no 15 minutes of fame.
Slipknot, well what can I say about them really so many people now know slipknot so well but only a year or so ago if you said “Slipknot” someone would just say “who?” This really shows how they have hit the big time, but are they starting to fail under the pressure of fame after the release of the new album ‘Iowa’? I first really hear Slipknot when the ‘Wait and Bleed’ Single hit the charts, I had heard stuff before and some of my friends told me they were a great band but I never really remembered to follow it up and get some stuff by them. But when I heard ‘Wait and Bleed’ I knew then it was time to go out and find all the info I could on the band and of course, get some of their music! Ok, well I better explain the band for you people out there who may not have a clue what I’m going on about here… Slipknot is a nine peace (yes, that’s nine members!) original heavy metal band from Iowa in America, they started off practicing in one of the members basements and they gained a fan base over here from air play on some rock shows on radio and the television, when they came over here they were met by a massive following and so they then had the strength to go back into America and succeed. All the band wear boiler suits and masks, each band member has a number and a different mask, the numbers and masks of each member are below. They have a selection of about twelve different colour boiler suits, the started of with red ones, just like the normal ones you can buy in the shops, but now they has custom made suits, the same with the masks, all originally made by the members out of paper by the members that they belonged to- now they are latex and things, complicated. The band members are as follows: (#0) Sid Wilson – Sid is the DJ of the group, he is also know as DJ Starscream and will be releasing a solo album soon under that name, but th
at’s another review… He wears a black gas mask as his mask, but now it is a custom one that is a skull that is moulded with a gas mask, he also has a white one and black one. (#1) Joey Jordison – Joey is the drummer of the band, he wears a Japanese white mask and he has several, some with blood on and others with various black painted lines on. Joey has long strait black hair with the red strips in it, something that a lot of Slipknot fans like to copy in their hair. (#2) Paul Grey – Paul was on of the two original founders on Slipknot, along with Mike, one of the guitarists. Paul is the bass player of the band; he wears a latex pig mask. (#3) Chris Fehn – Most Slipknot fans will know this guy well, with is rubber mask with the 7” long nose! Chris is one of the two ‘custom percussionists’ of the band; he has a set of steel drums. The other percussionist is Shawn, the famous man in the clown mask. (#4) James Root – James is the second guitarist of the band, he wears a sort of jesters mask, with the top ripped off, so his hair hangs out over the mask. He has kept the same mask from the start but has changes the colour of his hair; he now has blonde/white high lights all over. (#5) Craig Jones- Craig is in charge of all the samples/media and works on a computer and sometimes on Sid’s decks, adding the samples to the songs and changing bits etc. He originally wore a helmet with a mask over the top with nails taped to the top sticking out (so when he was head banging they looked as though they were rubber, but moved because they were not secure!) Now he has just a round ball of a mask with loads of spikes sticking out, with eyeholes cut and a zip across the mouth, in my opinion the older mask was better, this mask is a bit bland. (#6) Shawn Crahan – Shawn, apart from maybe Corey has to be the best know member of Slipknot, with hi
s clown mask, no a new mask with an evil clown, with a pentagram cut into the front (looking like real blood coming out) and brain matter showing at the top, maybe not as effective as before as a clown but still looks cool. Shawn is the second ‘custom custom percussionist’ of the band, and has his own drum kit, which he uses to create extra drumming, which adds a lot of depth to the songs. (#7) Mick Thompson – Mick is the main guitarist of the band, although I would say that the guitarists to about equal work in different songs. He wears a leather bondage type; face mask made from black leather. (#8) Corey Taylor – This is the man you must have heard about! He is the lead singer of the band. He originally wore a facemask and put his dreadlocks through holes in the top of it, but got fed up of doing that so he just cut them off and stuck them on the mask! Now though he has a full head covering (well, several actually, a black one and a grey one as far as I know) made of latex with coloured rope as the dreadlocks on the top of the mask. It is Corey’s powerful vocals that are part responsible for making Slipknot so big. Ok, so there are the band members for you, so now you know want to know more yes? Good, now slipknot have been around for a number of years now, originally formed by Paul and Mick in about 1995/1996 the line-up has changed slightly since then and they have got a lot bigger! The have released in there career three albums, but I expect you have only heard of two of them, so I will tell you about all of them: Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat – This album was independently released in 1996/1997 and there were only one thousand ever made, only five hundred of these are expected to still be in existence in the world. This album is very different to the others as it has more of a funk fell to it (as Joey is heavily into funk music, or was at the time anyway) so for now I will call it &
#8216;funk metal’. This funk metal is a mix of heavy guitars with a bit of dance/funk music, it sounds rather good actually! The CD has eight tracks on it: -Slipknot -Gently (original and better version, what a great riff!) -Do Nothing/Bitchslap -Only One (original, less heavy version) -Tattered & Torn (original, less heavy version- with out the freaky riff) -Confessions -Somefeel -Killers are Quiet (the same as ‘Iowa’ Just not as heavy and only ten minuets long) -Dogfish Rising (secret track made of samples and mixing, only on this CD) The cover is a picture of Joey in what looks like a house, the picture is all green and taken from above. All these tracks except ‘Dogfish Rising’ have been re-released on a CD that you can buy in most shops now. Slipknot – This is the album that brought us the famous ‘Wait and Bleed’ and ‘Spit it Out’ singles so if you are a fan reading this the I probably don’t need to tell you how brilliant this album it is, but if you want to get into Slipknot the this is the album to get, it’s the in between of the heaviness of Iowa, and some of the calmness of Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. And if you get the Digi-pak you can get extra tracks. The album was originally released in 1999 but then a wile later it was re-released with the tracks ‘Purity’ and ‘Frail Limb Nursery’ changed for ‘Me Inside’, the original is now pretty hard to get hold of. The tracks are as follows: -742617000027 (a track made of mixing and samples) -(Sic) -Eyeless -Wait and Bleed -Surfacing -Spit it Out -Tattered & Torn (new version with freaky riff and more samples) -Me Inside -Liberate -Prosthetics -No Life -Diluted -Only One (new version with samples) -Scissors -Get This * -Interloper * -Despise * -Eeyore (secret track) Tracks with a (*) by them are added tracks to the Digi-pak. Iowa – Well, this album has to be one of the most talked about releases of the year, after it was finally out it went strait to number one of the album charts. This album in a way is a slight let down, although it is growing on me a lot I feel that it has not has as much ‘Slipknot magic’ put into it as the first album, it feels like they have made this one quicker because they just wanted to get an album out there into the world quickly, so they don’t fade away, which I doubt they would anyway. This album is still very good but its all go-go heavy and there are no real soulful songs like Prosthetics on the album, the single ‘Left Behind’ is a good track though, but maybe not up there with Wait and Bleed. The Tracks are as follows: -(515) -People = Sh*t -Disasterpiece -My Plague -Everything Ends -The Heretic Anthem -Gently (heavier version of the MFKR album version, not as good) -Left Behind -The Shape -I Am Hated -Skin Ticket -New Abortion -Metabolic -Iowa (heavier version of the MFKR killers are quiet song) The album cover and book are made to a great standard though, there is a white and a shiny silver version available- the book inside has semi transparent pages, with the band members on one side and the lyrics on the other, very good. Over all Slipknot are one of the best metal acts ever but I fear they may be losing it and just turning to pure heavy metal, although I do still like it a lot, don’t get me wrong there. So I think this is the end, thanks for reading :o) NMSO4
Slipknot Suck! Dont get me wrong i am all up for heavy music. Most of my favourite bands are very heavy...korn, static-x etc, but slipknot suck. The only thing they can do well is put on a good stage show. The nine members of slipknot are made out to be real psychos and sick in the head etc, but its a show. Where do you think the masks come from??? There is the song everyone knows 'wait and bleed' then there are all the others such as 'eyeless' and 'surfacing' ... its crap. You can tell they are rubbish by the lyrics...come on really.. '...f**k everything you stand for' AARRGGHH !! There new release of IOWA really anoys me too, i know millions of people are going to buy it and i also know its crap. ...Worth seein though!
I see that most of you that have written in this category seem to be anti-slipknot. I can see that Slipknot do cause offence to many people with their aggressive attitude. On most of their band merchandise they have "People = Sh*t". Their stage act shocks a lot of people! One of the members doesn't even play anything or even sing. He just jumps around (mainly to get the mosh pits going) getting hit but the other members. I have seen a clip where and the end of their last track the drummer got up and through him into his drum set. Their masks also freak a lot of people out. People say things like "are they that ugly?" Well maybe this is why people = Sh*t! A lot of people can not accept what slipknot stands for how their fans can like listening to such "crap"? Slipknot are very loyal to their fans. They are often doing signing sessions. As they where red boiler suits and Masks the fans don't know what the look like so after their shows they go to mingle with their fans. The band does not do this for good publicity, but do it, as they want to give something to the fan in return. During a live concert slipknots drummer was playing away and because of his head banging, he smacked his head on his drum set. Somehow he managed to keep going to the end of the song and then passed out! Many people don't know that there are two slipknot albums (soon to be three). When they brought out their first album called 'Mate, Feed, Kill & repeat Corey Taylor (vocals) was not even in the band. They only made 500 copies of this album. I would give anything to get my hands on one. They didn't expect to sell them all but slipknot's unique style seems to impress many people. They soon got rid of there lead vocals and got Corey Taylor into the band. in my opinion when Corey wants to he can sing really well (like in parts of Wait and Bleed). Band member info: (0) - Sid Wilson (Turntables) Mask
- Gas Mask. (1) - Joey Jordison (Drums) Mask - expressionless Japanese mask. (2) - Paul (bass) Mask - Pig's face mask with its septum pierced. (3) - Chris Fehn (Percussion) Mask - Bondage type Pinnochio mask, with a nose about 7-8 inches long. (4) - James Root (Guitar) Mask - jester/demon. (5) - Craig Jones (sampling) mask - Gas station helmet with spikes on the top. (6) - Shawn Crahan (Percussion) Mask - Clown. (7) - Mick (Lead Guitar) Mask - Leather hockey mask. (8) - Corey Tayler (Vocals) Mask - Leatherface cover, with brown/blonde dreads.
I first heard a Slipknot record sort of by accident, on the radio. Sure, I'd heard OF them, heard a lot about them, read a lot about them - their act, the apparently disgusting things that form part of their act - I'd just not heard any of their music. Because, let's face it, with a band like Slipknot, their reputation precedes them. The hideous masks, their onstage persona, even their names (their numbers, should I say). I'd quickly got the idea that they slotted somewhere within some genre, no doubt with a specific name, but essentially heavy / noise / metal. ...and, yes, I'd also formed the impression that I probably wouldn't like their music. I have some pretty heavy and discordant stuff in my own record collection. The Pixies, Husker Du, The Archers of Loaf... even my Iron Butterfly CD (recorded 1968) - all music that's been known to make other people in the house shriek about me turning the volume down. I don't think that, musically, I shrink from 'noise' as such. Anyway, back to Slipknot... The Steve Lamacq Show was on the Radio as I came into the room, and the track playing was one that, for some reason just made me think straight away, "that sounds like the sound that a band that look like Slipknot would make" ? in my not very articulate way. It had faint, rhythmic guitars, scuzzily played, but pretty much in the background, Very much to the fore, was a screaming vocal. Mostly the lyrics were unintelligible, but I think I caught the word "sex" every so often. It didn't progress much, sounded the same all the way through, but thankfully the track was very short, so it was over soon. And, sure enough, I was informed that it was a Slipknot track. So... to be frank, I don't like their music at all, in fact I think it's extremely bad music. And the overriding thought I keep having is this - how can it take nine guys to make that kin
d of, essentially straightforward, noise... I mean, Husker Du could make a great racket, and there were only three of them. According to my reckoning there must be at least 4 guys in Slipnot stood around twiddling their thumbs at recording sessions. I apologise for not writing more about the music itself. You know, a detailed review of the album, and so on. That's because I've only heard one Slipknot track. It was only short, but it somehow managed to be all of the following things: nothing special / boring / noisy / predictable. Predictable in more than one way, actually. In the sense that the music offered no surprises whatsoever, and never seemed to even promise any. But also predictable in a far more serious way: if Slipknot ended up sounding just like I expected they would, what does that say about how predictable they are in general? I don't like making snap judgements, when it comes to music, but what I heard sounded dire - why would I want to hear anything else by them? I make no apologies for not writing more about the band. The outrage, the band members, and so on. But I honestly feel it's been done to death, and frankly I'm not impressed by them at all - so for me to go on again about the stage antics or the obscenities would just reinforce what already seems to be the case - that Slipknot's image is far more important than their music. Which of course, it is. The image, and the marketing (let's not forget all the merchandising - all those NINE masks to sell to the punters!) I'm going to try my best to avoid hearing anything by Slipknot ever again.
I never heard of Slipknot before until I read an article in the Rolling Stones about these FREEKS. I was so disgusted by the masks they disguise themselves in. And the way they talk about their music, friends and family, it seems they hate everything. In their concerts they throw their own feces in the crowds, and drink their own urine. Now how disgusting can you get, and what are they trying to prove? It seems to me that they are just trying to get attention in the most disgusting way possible, or maybe they have some serious problems. These guys are older and some even have children, and I just cannot believe the way they present themselves. The "clown" said in the magazine that once he ask a guy if he gave him some money, if he would drink his unrine. The guy did it and took the money. Then the clown asked if he gave him more money if he would throw it up and drink it again. He drank it, took the money and walked out. The other band members had their say as well. Like the one who wears the scuba diving mask. (I appologize if I don't know their names) He said that he hates life and what he is doing, but if he wasn't in the band he would be off killing people! The other creeps stated that they never wash their masks because they love the smell of the "sweet stench." How more disturbing can a person get. And how can people listen to their music, when all they sing about is death, murder, suicide, and everything else that is appaling? Everyone has different taste in music, but I think this is just ridiculous! When I was younger I thought Ministry, Metallica, and Poison were bad. This music now to me is like soft rock compared to Slipknot's music. They look so creepy that I would not let my 2 year old look at them. He would have nightmares for the rest of his young life! Anywayse, to get back to the magazine that I was reading about them. The nine members also said that they love injuring themselves in conc
erts. Like breaking ribs, bones, cutting themselves, smashing things over their heads, and setting themselves on fire. In conclusion I just want to say that I think they are a disgrace to other heavy metal bands that are really good. And that band like this should be illegal!
Once again i am here writing an opinion to defend an alternative band/musician. First it was Marilyn Manson and now it is Slipknot. just as everyone slags off good old MM, they now slag off Slipknot. They wouldn't be anywhere without there masks, people say. They supposedly fight against conformity and being the same, and yet they all wear identical suits people say. What people don't seem to understand is that Slipknot ARE different. they have nine members in the band for a start. (i know a lame start excuse..but it gets better). They are a great band and don't just sing about being different and fighting conformity, they EnFORCE there beliefs. How many bands can you name that do that? Slipknot take a point and they prove there point physically, not just whine about how they would but they broke a fingernail.....and i admire them for that. And so what if they wear the same boiler suits? they are a band trying to get by as an entity and sometimes that is the only way. And the masks? they are an extension of each members personality. Many would say that is lame and slipknot shouldn't be around, but i can see where they are coming from. Also the masks help to keep the band members anonymous, and that is a big help for each member. Not being hassled for autographs....going offstage after entertianing thousnads all at once and taking the masks off and being able to walk around freely...people should admire that not find is stupid and immature. Another thing. Why do people put the band down because the masks help them to sell records. At least they ARE selling records. That is helping them to become better musicians...using better facilities to record is a big help...i should know.... And while i am on the subject (well actually i wasn't...but i am now!!)... why are the band banned from playing venues. The government of England (well actually the local council) banned them from palying in Wolverhampton because they found the
show to be to unlawful and violent and undecent. What kind of Bulls**t us that? they aren't THAT bad...i mean they are no worse than Eminem and he wasn't banned from a venue...that is just childish... In simple terms i am trying to say that Slipknot are a great band that don't deserve the amount of bad publicity they get. They aren't as bad as people make out and they aren't just another band trying to make the quick money by wearing masks and identical suits. They are an amazing band that deserve the good s**t.
In my opinion, the likes of Slipknot who supposedly make 'music' are a total waste of time. Slipknot are no better than the endless boybands that clutter up the charts in that they are used as nothing more than a statement. Just think, how many hundreds of teenagers every day do you see walking around with baggy trousers, black hair and a Slipknot t-shirt. These guys are trying to say 'i'm different'. Well, maybe back in '95 they could claim that, but Slipknot have become more of a mainstream band and they are no longer unique. Lets face it, Slipknot are every stereotypical teens favourite band if they want the wrodl to know that they're a bit naughty. these wankers aren't really that far off appearing on SMTV live with Ant and Dec.
