I had never heard of the Stereophonics until ?bartender and the thief?, which a quality tune, and so I had to go out and buy the album ?performance and cocktails?. I originally thought that this was their first album, then I heard ?local boy in the photograph? on the radio and was told of their first album by a friend. So loving their second album so much, I went out and bought ?word gets around?, and now I really don?t know which of the two I prefer. The first album has some great songs, and some good songs, but no really under average songs on the album. But there is one song that is below the standard of the rest of the album, it would have to be ?last of the ... Read the complete review

Stereophonics - M.E.N Arena - 2.12.01 Its a shame because tonight I left asking the question where did it all go wrong? For some the answer may slip off the tongue easily with a retort like when was it ever right? But to me the Stereophonics were always a band you could rely on. They had that underlining lyrical base with the simplistic pub rock that proves if you're in the right place at the right time then anyone can make it. The problem is they never really progressed from that pub band mentality and still maintain that outmoded ideology that the music will simply speak for itself. What we get tonight is - no airs, no graces, no frills pub rock and ... Read the complete review

Kelly Jones has one hell of a voice The Stereophonics music is just so damn powerful it almost makes your teeth hurt. Being a big fan of drums mixed up loud I love the rush of adrenalin this band gives me when I whack up the volume control. Especially in the car. Also a fantastic group to see live they sound as good as on the album no major mixing tricks to improve their voices. If you like this get the video of them at the morfa statium. They run thru all the big songs and there is massive dedication and effort. The album is great starting with 'The bartender and the thief' all the way to classics like 'She takes her clothes off'. A group that ... Read the complete review

The Stereophonics are fantastic. In five years they have released one great single after another and have released three albums, word gets around, performance and cocktails, and just enough education to perform, which are all brilliant! The band consists of three musicians, Kelly Jones (vocals and guitars), Richard Jones (bass), and Stuart cable (drums). The name “Stereophonics” was not the bands original name. The band, were originally known to the locals as “Tragic love company”. The bands favourite three bands inspired the name: Tragically Hip, mother love, and Bone and bad company. The name Stereophonics was made after ... Read the complete review

Since I joined dooyoo I have read several dozen Stereophonic reviews. These reviews have more or less granted knighthoods on the lads from Wales. Well I think it is time to balance the scales. For my money the Stereophonics, while possessing the most honest hearts in the right place you'll ever see, are a band that are completely directionless, short of inspiration and give new meaning to the word dull. Their success baffles me, their lyrics belong to Noel Gallagher's pre-school notebook and the tired way that they go about flattering us with melody makes my ears run for the fresh mousetrap my flatmates have set for the most uncatchable rodent ...
