Advantages: guitar solos r outstanding

Disadvantages: short album

Okay, so many of you have not heard of the mega guitarist, former Frank Zappa sideman and all round innovator that is Steve Vai. So this is he perfect album to buy if you are in need of a little educating. Although all of his albums feature absolute classic guitar solos, this is probably the only album not to feature any serious clangers. It's only short (a little over half an hour) but that's probably for the best-the ideas don't get boring, there are no dodgy vocal numbers that spoil so many of his other albums (bear in mind that this is an album of pure guitar solos). These are guitar solos that you can actually SING-and they feature some stunning pyrotechnics.

Track highlights-

"Bad Horsie" A highly catchy metal riff, with some very convincing whinneys demonstrate Vai's ability to create virtually any noise he likes on his guitar.

"Kill The Guy With The Ball" Just generally brilliant.

"Ya-Yo Gakk" Vai mimics his son's random baby noises on his guitar (with frightening accuracy) and adds a killer guitar solo for good measure.

"Tender Surrender" A really touching instrumental that plays with the tension just enough to leave you wanting more. A fine ending to a fine album.

Much better album than Sex and Religion, but I still feel Passion and Warfare is THE Vai album to get.

A very good guitarist, but a few things could have been said here, I feel. A good review as far as it goes, but it would be nice if it went further.

Stev Vai da man, but this review is far too short. Tender Surrender is absolutely incredible.
