Advantages: For your metal-head friends, MOSH AFTER MOSH!

Disadvantages: Doesnt appeal to anyone outside of Rock and Metal.

I havent had the privelidge of seeing System of a Down live... well, not in person, anyway. However, the influence on my Earth-shattering transition from general Music Listener to Rock Music Addict was very much System of a Downs fault.

Currently on hiatus and doing separate projects, System consists of Serj Tankian, Daron Malakian, John Dolmayan and Shavo Odadjian. Many associate their music with the Nu-Metal Genre, but their music ranges from Acoustic Rock all the way down to Progressive Metal.

Their music is noted as being 'left-wing' and contains lyrical opinions and suggestions on too many subjects to go on about. One of the main subjects is, however, the Armenian Genocide, which holds particular interest to the band, given their Armenian roots.

Rumors continue to circulate on the bands current situation, which is still 'permanent hiatus.' Many speculate whether the band has completely split, or if a reform is about to happen, to which neither is answered by Serj Tankian.

Their music isnt something to which you can say everyone will like, simply because of its political stance, and because of its Metal genre, which appeals to a select bunch of people.

If I were to recommend it to someone, it would be anyone who listens to the likes of Slayer, Slipknot and Metallica.
