Jeff Mills in general
by jorindel
The name Jeff Mills is synonomous with Techno. This man is world renowned for his musical expertise and his amazing production skills. Born in Detroit June 18 1963, Jeff Mills has produced a vast collection of minimal techno, spanning the genre from down right agressive to slow and funky. The sound of Mills is unmistakable. ... Perhaps the most prominant of his releases over the years are the Waveform Transmissions series. These 3 long players explore all avenues of Millsian techno. Minimalist beats combined with the flowing rhythm and wonderful sense of timing encapsulate what Jeff Mills is all about. Having seen Mills play live at the Complex in London, several years ago, I can honestly say he is outstanding. He is one of only a handful of DJ's in our time that can truly work the crowd. Mills' style when DJing live is tempestuous, his manipulation of the decks is something to behold. Rarely playing more than a minute and a half of each tune before shifting wildly to the next, Mills is not afraid to experiment with new tricks. Admittedly he doesn't always pull them off, but when he does it is truly mindblowing. Unfortunately his performances in the UK are becomming more scarce. His style demands that he follows the scene around the world and upsettingly the techno scene is not what it once was in England. But then that's the wheel of life. Jeff Mills is a musical genius of our time.

Carl Cox in general
by jeff2000
I was lucky enough to be one of the 1300 people at the Renaissance birthday party just a couple of weeks ago. The highlight of the night, without a doubt was the performance of Carl Cox. The mans a legend. He played a faultless set of progressive trance and techno, mixing it up with his customary three deck wizardry, the crowd didn't ... know what had hit them! As well as being a top jock he also seems to be a top bloke into the bargain, every time I looked up at the DJ booth he had the biggest grin on his face, shaking anyone near enough by the hand and punching the air to the beat. If this set was anything to go by he is worth any lengths to see, I shall cetainly be following him around like a mental stalker...

Carl Cox in general

If you have't seen Coxy live please don't waste valuable minutes reading this - run and buy yourself a ticket to his next set. This man is a god. First and foremost of course he plays fantastic tunes without exception (house and techno) and is the master of the spinback (whoosh noises and the like). He's also one of the ... friendliest DJs on the circuit - we saw him live at The End (London) and he was chatting to us and eating our sweets. He's one of the few DJs who hasn't become naff even when they've achieved global superstardom, for which respect is definitely due. He's got the crowd-pleasing thing down too, waving records in the air and making the crowd scream till they're sick, then literally throwing them onto the decks and still bringing them in perfectly. (He often plays on three or even four decks too). AND he's the only DJ to consistently play the remix of 'As' by George Michael and Mary J Blige, which is one of the best dance tunes made in the last couple of years. See the man!!
