This year is the Queen's Golden Jubilee and many people wonder how musically the year will be marked or remembered. When doing so these people (mainly TV news and newspaper stories) refer back to the Silver Jubilee of 1977 and how that year was marked with the Punk phenomenon. When that year and Punk is talked about together a number of bands are also talked about. First up are always the Sex Pistols and more often than not the next band to be mentioned is The Stranglers. 'DUN DERRUN, DERUNNDERRUNDER, DUN DERRUN!!!' Grinding, in yer face, grunt and grind bass, with the most despicable leer and sneer you have ever heard.... That was the public face (or noise) of The Stranglers as they rode on the back of the Angry Young Men of punk in 1976-77 to come to public prominence as the dirty old men of new wave, meninblack who were more reminiscent of navvies and flashers than fey pop stars.... A string quartet plays, slowly then gathering speed as an orchestra joins in. It's a good tune, something perhaps for Drive Time on Classic FM. A motif is established, developed as the music progresses, slowing then picking up. After one and a half minutes a drum beat joins in followed by Dave Greenfield's plaintive electric organ. Paul Roberts confident husky voice joins in at the two minute mark and we are off in 'Still Life', sixth song on The Stranglers 'About Time' album. I, Cookie36, have removed this, my opinion. Therefore it can no longer be rated unless you actually want to rate these few words of explanation. I have decided to do this for personal reasons and am hoping that dooyoo will delete this account. I feel I can no longer be part of dooyoo as I feel there is too much wrong with it and there are a lot of things happening here that shouldn't.
