Advantages: I guess they relieve you of some nostalgia

Disadvantages: They're not real!, Sometimes they suck

If you're a big fan of a certain band, and suddenly the lead singer dies; bringing the band to a tragic end, you're bound to be upset. Who wouldn't?

My two favourite bands have both broken up after the lead singer dies (Nirvana, Sublime)but sad as I may be, I accept it.

The thing I disagree with is when followers of the band try to recreate 'the good ol days' by making a tribute band. Its all very well covering a few songs but making a tribute band in my opinion is like telling the world 'I'm not talented'.

Its the perfect remedy for songwriter's block - start a tribute band! Perform songs that have already been written! Stand in the shoes of your favourite hero! But what does this tell evryone else - you're a talentless (well tallentless in the songwriting department - at least you can play the songs) person who cant write songs and wants to live in another person's glory.

Why would anybody want to go and watch a tribute band? Because they may create a good atmosphere and all that, but you STILL know that that blonde guy singing isnt actually Kurt Cobain (or whoever) so doesnt that kinda spoil the atmosphere?

If you ask me, when your hero dies - find another band to go and watch and just remember them by listening to their albums or watching videos. If your band havent split up then just go and watch the real thing!!!!
