I love U2's music. I discovered it in 1982 and I have bought everything they have ever released. I have seen them on every tour since 1984. Im not boasting here, just setting the scene cause i am about to slag them off. However much I like them on record, I loved them live. During the 1980's I started to collect live recordings. I had to settle for cheap crappy bootleg recordings cause U2 never released much live material. What they have released over the years has given a very poor representation of their ability and the magic of their concerts. I would like to go as far as to say they have conned their fans. A sort of homecoming (live). This is a studio recording with crowd noises added to it. All along the watchtower on rattle and hum. This is so edited, an entire verse is missed out. With or without you live as a b side but with the ending of the song cut off. It stinks. U2's sound engineer records every concert, every soundcheck, every note. They should release everything. Instead we have to settle for crappy boots, recorded in the audience with someone singing about 6 inches from the tape. I know U2 have tried to make ammends over the years by having live shows on the radio which they know fans will tape but these shows were always a little flat. U2 never could play to order. The real gems are hidden away. Lets have it all including the dodgy cover versions and bono soapbox bits. Lets have the soundchecks. Soundcheck recordings of Acrobat in Philadelphia exist. And I want to hear them. Cork Opera house in 1979. I want to hear a decent version. I love this band but I really think they have let the fans down here. They could even do this by mail order and give any profits to charity. The fact it is that the bootleggers have kept us going between lp's and that really should have been done by
the band. There are some massive U2 fans in this world who have created some amazing web pages. I think the band should give this as a project to a handful of them and make all the live recordings available to those of us who are sad enought to want to hear every last version of every song this fantastic band have ever played.

- 25/06/01 The way you write one setence per paragraph gets a bit annoying. |

- 25/06/01 Never heard U2 live before but I do like a lot of what they have done so would like to, the trouble with releasing live versions of what they have done is that a lot of people would never buy it as they would see it as nothing new. |

- 25/06/01 I heard a bootleg of U2's Croke Park gig in 1987. The quality was awful but I distinctly remember TV cameras so there must be footage, official recordings around. It was my first gig and to hear it now would be special. Cheers. |
