Advantages: Fantastic Live Group
Disadvantages: Availability of tickets!
OK, so i probably need to get out more - but I've just had the most unbelievable experience this weekend.... I went to see the opening UK night of the Elevation Tour at Manchester Arena. I have to admit to being extremely biased. U2 have been my favourite band for the best part of 20 years now, and for one reason or another I've never made it to one of their concerts before! So it has been my ambition to see them for ages! When i managed to get tickets earlier this year, I nearly fell off my chair(through ticketmaster.co.uk) and wouldn't believe that I actually had them until I got them in the post. The opening act - Kelis - in my opinion - was useless, wasn't even my taste in music. I did feel sorry for her though as the audience made it quite clear that they wanted U2 to come on. When they did come on to Elevation, I didn't have enough skin to cope with my goosebumps! The stage (for those of you that don't know already) had a 'walkway' leading out of it in the shape of a heart, with part of the audience actually in the heart. Bono and Edge spent all night wandering around this heart and bringing the experence right to the crowd. Don't ask me about the running order or set list, I was so carried away that I couldn't tell you all the details. I'm hoping that they will be posting the set list on U2.com so that I can keep a copy for future. I can say that they played a lot more of their older stuff than I expected, which was fantastic - Sunday Bloody Sunday, With or Without You,Pride etc etc as well as lots from 'all that you can't leave behind'. Bono dedicated Kite to his dying Dad, especially poignant for me as I received All That You Can't leave Behind in the post the same day as my mother-in-law died, and Kite immediately became 'her' song. I'm sure I was not the only one that had tears rolling down their cheeks.
I have been to a fair few concerts in my time, but to be honest, I would rate saturday night as an 'experience' rather than just another concert. 'Fantastic' is an understatement. If you ever have the opportunity to go - then jump at it - i guarantee that you will not regret it! - Wish I was going again.
