Vonda Shepard is probably my favourite female singer, you may have read my opinions about the Ally McBeal soundtracks, and I’ll soon be writing about Vonda’s previous albums, I would think the ‘By 7:30’ opinion will be fairly long because it’s a classic album. Any way I’m deviating from the subject, I just wanted to write a short opinion about her talent. I wouldn’t think many people know of her apart from her appearance in McBeal but to these people I must say you have missed something, because she’s the best female vocalist around. Her songs are usually slow, romantic pieces (I suppose Soul) and she’s ... Read the complete review

Until Ally McBeal hit the screens, I had never heard of Vonda Shepherd, but the more I watched the TV series, the more I began to appreciate the quality of her voice. Many of the songs she does are cover versions, but she manages to add a little magic to even the most mundane of songs. Her album "Songs from Ally McBeal" has fast become one of my all time favourites, particularly the track "The Wildest Times Of The World" which she co - wrote, which sends shivers up and down my spine. Her original lyrics are poetic and meaningful and her style is a combination of white soul, country, blues, pop ...and almost any other style you care to mention. I have .. Read the complete review

I must admit i never imagined someone to have such an unusual name like Vonda Shepard but it doesn't stop her at all. Vonda Shepard has an amazing voice which brings her songs to life however i must confess that until i started watching channel 4's great hit comedy Ally McBeal i had never heard of her. Vonda Shepard as you probably know by now sings the theme tune of Ally McBeal, Searching my soul and i can't wait to sit down on a Wednesday evening to watch the show but also bob along to the opening song. I've never heard someone with a voice like her's and i doubt i ever will. It's very unique and adds that something else to her songs. ... Read the complete review

I've got both the Ally McBeal CDs and I think that this is the better of the two. The music is refreshingly bouncy, bluesy, or whatever the mood requires and perfect for the show. Unusally for a compilation there are a lot of good songs of varied styles on this CD. Vonda Shepard basically provides the music at the bar downstairs from Fish's law fim. Apparently she has a career separate from Ally McBeal but I've never heard of it. This cd features the show’s theme song as well as a wonderful variety of others---many of which are great “oldies but goodies” which I don't remember from first time round but am a big fan of now!. ... Sorry to disagree guys but Vonda Shepard should be sued for the unspeakable torture to music. Yes her voice is probably quite impressive and no I can't sing. But she is one in a long genre of singers, generally from America, who think the only way to sing is through vocal gymnastics which wring every morsel of possible emotion from a song. I'm thinking Mariah Carey and Celine Dion (though she might be Canadian). I quite like Ally McBeal, the overall show, not the actual protagonist. It's one of those personality traits I like to hide. But I think that her daydreams about being followed round by Al Green etc showcase musical talent. The self indulgent ... Read the complete review
