Advantages: Return to form
Disadvantages: None in particular
Theres already a pretty good review on this site for this band in general, but I thought that since they have now reformed (from 2004 onwards) i'd put my own 2 cents in.
The Wedding Present are a great example of the twee indie style of the 80's. An excellent amalgamation of the Fall, the Buzzcocks and Gang of Four every song is a charming piece of jangly pop goodness.
to continue where the last review left off I am going to review some of the releases from the band since they have reformed in 2004
"Take Fountain"
The bands seventh album was originally recorded as the forth album of the band "Cinerama" (confusing eh?!) but after the break up of a relationship between David Gedge decided that the darker tone of the material would be better suited to the wedding present moniker. Once again the songs are bitter and sarcastic pop ditties aimed at lovers lost and intelligent obervations of life in general. Particular of note is the second single from this album "I'm from further north than you" which see's Gedge back on form. A singles collection named "Search for Paradise: Singles 2004-5" was released after the band toured europe and gives a good indication of the bands sound during this period.
"El Ray"
Similar in style to the previous album, it has not however been particularly well recpeted by fans and critics - this should not put you off however as "The thing I like about him most is his girlfriend" is a solid a single as they have ever released.
