Advantages: A fantastic body of pop rock classics

Disadvantages: The occasional awful song

There is something very unique about Weezer. They are truly quite unlike anything else in the music industry in both the way they sound and the effect they have on people. In the same way that 'The Cure' can arguably be said to have started the 'goth' movement, yet were never really 'gothic' themselves (they sang about caterpillars and cats for Christ's sake), Weezer are not at all 'emo'. They are so much more than that.

Although the Blue Album was very introverted and geeky, their music doesn't fit in with the rest of the emo oveure. Weezer instead appeal to the niche parts of people, the socially isolated yet pop-culture obsessed - a near universal element that only they seem to be able to tap.

The band have just released the brilliant and absurd Red Album. Rivers Cuomo (Weezer's frontman) has also gained a degree in English literature. With their many side projects, they are a very active group who every now and then create an album that those people on the outside looking in can obsess over.

Summary: They appeal to a part of me that no-one else can get to
