Advantages: ballads aplenty

Disadvantages: no fast songs

I know a lot of people mock the group and I can see why, they do release a lot of covers, but there are some good points too. I thought I would do a good vs bad of Westlife:

The good:

* 'Flying Without Wings' is an astute and moving pop ballad, with soaring verses and some mighty fine vocals from Mark and Shane
* They have notched up 13 number one hits, pretty impressive
* They survived, despite losing Bryan McFadden
* They have lasted ten years, not bad for a 'boyband'
* Diana Ross agreed to sing with them for a cover, if she agreed to do that, she must think they are good!
* Their cover of 'Uptown Girl' is possibly on a par with Joel's original and has a better music video
* They are good looking

The bad:

* 'You Raise Me Up' is sickly, no arguments there
* They love to sit on stools and sing, then get up for the last chorus
* Mark seems to put on weight each time they bring out a new single
* Two of the blonde ones look similar, it is hard to tell which is which
* They hardly ever do upbeat numbers. Just 3 out of 22 singles so far have been 'uptempo'

Verdict: Undecided, I bought one of their albums though and admit it was rather acceptable.

Summary: safe and cosy
