Advantages: an impossibly superb line up.
Disadvantages: it could never be done, for obvious reasons.
I've been giving this some serious thought over the last few days - if I could have anyone play for me, anywhere, who would I pick? The more I tink about it, the more I find myself drawn down rather a curious track.... You see, I do have some money, I could potentially go and see any of my favourite bands who are about now, so while collecting them together in one place would be fun, as fantasy's go, it is a bit on the tame side. So, my fantasy gig will include all the bands and solo artists who died before I got a chance to see them. Imagine they could all be returned to life for one night! Or imagine a gig that travels through time in order to capture key moments, if that suits you better. I'm not that fussed about a venue - somewhere in the UK that isn't impossible to get to by train, several stages. For now I'll just stick to the rock end, but maybe if reviving catches on, I'll have some decomposing composers next year. (Ok, so perhaps this isn't in the best possible taste, but so many great people are dead, and I would love a chance to see them.)For reasons entirely personal, I shall not be including Buddy Holly or Elvis. You can complain in the comments section if you want. Jimi Hendrix. Well, I love his music, he died far too young, so he's first on my list for resurection. The Doors. I've read a great deal about Jim Morrison, he fascinates me. I know there's a theory that he isn't actually dead, but assuming he is, I'd like to bring back him and the Doors as they were in their heyday. Janis Joplin - well, I had to, didn't I? Amazing voice, tragic early death. Nirvana - Now, I am not the biggst fan these guys ever had, but I figure that it really would be weird doing this without them. INXS - not only another chance to revive a tragically absent genius, but a chance to put these guys on the same stage as The Doors! Would they get on? What would
be said? COuld I get them to jam together durning the soundcheck? Queen get second billing. I had just started listening to them when Freddie died. Superb band, and another terrible loss for music. Top of the bill of course would have to be The Beatles, back before they went their seperate ways. John Lenon would be the final resurection on my list. Fasntasy gigs don't really get much more fantastical then that. It is depressing to think how many talented people have died too young. I think the following year I would run a classical concert - Beethoven for a start. Blues has lost more than its share of excellent artists, I expect jazz has as well. So, spend a moment on your own great gig in the sky, and let me know who you think i should have included.
