Advantages: Catchy tunes
Disadvantages: Can't think of any
Wheatus launched their carrier with the smash hit single ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ that was used as the title song for the film ‘Loser’. When I first listened to the album, before I knew it I was listening to it for the second time. Not only does it contain such catchy tunes as ‘Teenage Dirtbag’, ‘Leroy’ and ‘Hump’em ‘n’ dump’em’, but also a cover of the classic ‘A little respect’. The band consists of members (brothers) Brenden B Brown (guitar, vocals) and Peter Brown (drums), Mike McCabe (bass) and Phil A. Jimenez (percussion, keyboards, backing vocals, harmonica). Rich Leigey originally played bass for the album. This album shows only a section of the success, which Wheatus are capable of. They are destined to be around for a long time, and as they wrote and produced all the songs on the album and recorded it in one of their basements in only 3 weeks, it shows there potential. If you like bands like Placebo, Iron Maiden etc, then this is the album to get.

- 06/04/01 Dirtbag is probably the best single of the year for me, its a shame the rest of the album isn't as good, though respect is cool for the novelty value alone and love is a mutt from hell seems to me destined for radio airplay. Not a bad album but then not a great one. Good review though :) |
