Advantages: Breathes
Disadvantages: Sings
Will Young has been given the weakest song from Westlife's recent album with which to launch his solo career. Generous of them I though, but no doubt all the hype the Pop Idol show has generated will catapult it to number one, a la Hear'Say. The fact that this song is the weakest is not my own opinion, but that of one of the Westlife boys. Will Young is a 22 year old from London town, which may explain why he won the vote against Gareth Gates. You see, some people from this neck of the woods (West Yorkshire) have complained they couldn't get through to vote and local radio stations have had news stories saying local phone exchanges experienced technical problems stopping thousands of votes. Of course many of Wills' fans also couldn't vote due to the sheer volume of telephone traffic, but it makes a good story don't you think? Personally I don't give two hoots who won as manufactured pop acts appeal to me as much as liver and onions, that is not much. I feel this kind of act lacks soul, not that Will isn't good at singing, he is but to be a real Pop Idol you have to write your own material, that's just my opinion. Will Young has become something of an icon for the gay community, being voted number one fantasy gay date by 22% of voters on uk.gay.com site. A quote from Will on this site saying how he is "freakishly anal about tidiness."?! http://www.wyoung.co.uk/ Will now has his own website, having quickly brought his HTML skills up to scratch apparently. The fact that he has a degree in politics may explain why he won the contest, the cynic in me thinks! I will stop this diatribe now as you can visit his site to find out all your heart desires about Mr Young.

- 26/02/02 I thought three stars was pretty generous really for a glorified karaoke kid.

- 19/02/02 I think Will is a true pop idol, thoroughly deserved to win & has a uniqueness about him that Hear'say never had. Plus he can't argue with himself & walk out ;-) |

- 19/02/02 Maybe the vast majority of pop acts don't write their own songs..but that doesnt mean they are right, I mean isnt the majority always wrong? And shouldn't pop acts be done away with altogether? What a load of pap. Good luck to Will Young, maybe he is nice, maybe he's not...but I think he should have stuck to politics. (you have to be an idiot to want to a pop star or idol. It's a proven fact) |
